2.0L mondeo engine into an XR2I 16V
how easy would this be. is it literally a straight swap or do i need things like wiring looms and custom parts? i know that the engine mounts are the same but is that it?
i would be able to sorce the engine and other parts but does anyone know someone in the southend essex area that would be able to fit it and how much?
cheers peeps

Nick 2i :Its a straight swap mate, you dont have to change anything
not strictly true i believe u have to change some of the parts off ur 1800 block on to the 2.0 for it to physically fit in there. cant remeber exactly [ERRR] though but i shuid tell u on this site, its packed with info created by Excursion off here

you have to change the water pump for a start then its a reasonably easy job. the mondeo pump turns the opposite way cause of power steering and stuff use the pump from the fiesta

OK first I am assuming you have a 16V 105BHP Zetec already. A big ?? for this conversion is whether you have internal or external EDIS (that's the electronics bit that drives the ignition). I think but am not sure that early 16Vers had external and later had internal.
If you have internal EDIS (ie enternal in the ECU) then lifes a dream if you have external you will also have to do loom mods as all Manual Mondeos use internal EDIS. So in short if you have internal EDIS you need no loom mods and you can plug the MOndy ECU straight in. One other option if you have External EDIS is to keep the loom and use an RS1800 ECU but I have no experience of how well this runs.
One you have sorted out the ECU options, the mechanical bit is easy it just involves cannibalising bits off your 1.8 Zetec to bolt on to the 2.0. You will need from your 1.8
Sump
Inlet Manifold
Dip Stick and Tube
WAter Pump
Oil Pump (or keep the Mondeo one and use a CVH shorter filter)
Exhaust Manifold
Engine Mounts
I probably forgot something so have a look at

If you are still interested I can e-mail you a write up I did for the QUantum Owners club describing my conversion which took me around 3 days to do. If u want a copy let me have an e-mail address I can send it to
