2.0L zetec rev limit ? head gasket question also
Hi just wondering what is the highest rev limit a 2 litre zetec with standard internals can take i am hoping to get the limit to 7k or above
and i have heard you can use a metal head gasket ( poss from a focus) to raise the compression ratio - where would you be able to buy 1 from and anyone know model numbers so i dont end up with the wrong item
Thanks for any help

I'm pretty sure on my Mondeo Mk2 2.0 the limiter is at 7k revs with a DESK ECU.
Only bounced off it once mind so I could be wrong.

depends how long you want the engine to last,
i think your forgetting though, maximum power on a standard engine is achieved well below the limiter, just raising the limiter is only going to cause unnecessary damage

yeha not sure if its around 6.5k on mine at the moment but dont really go that far up much.
FezzR - currently have megasquirt ecu throttle bodies 4-1 manifold and tempted by some cams and head work budget depending and just thinking i higher rev limit may benifit an n/a Fiesta.
There is now way i can afford any bottom end work so was just interested in how far i can push it safely with the above mods mentioned

would depend alot on mapping skill and cam capabilities, if you map it all up and its still pulling strong just before the limit ( i would suspect its not) then yea go for a higher limiter,
in the main higher limiter just means sorter life span obviously dependant on how high you raise it

It also depends on how well the engine is built and if ARP rod bolts are fitted, if well done then yes 7k+ can be done.
I had a 2.1 ZVH that had a rev limit at 8k with standard internals

As long as its built correctly then it should cope with 7k no problems. Used to use these engines in formula ford and the rev limiter was set at 8.5k and that was fine! The rev limit on these engines are only set to prevent valve bounce/valve contact when the engine reaches high milage and the valve springs start to go weak. However you wont gain anything from just increasing the rev limiter as 7k is well out of the power-band

you can uprate the cams so that it runs that high but there really is no point as the rev limiters are set so that the engine doesnt jst knacker itself trying to go quicker
after a while itll start to knock like a jehovas witness on speed

Mate's emerald+tb'ed zetec has a 7200 limit and it drove up, took that all day at bruntingthorpe then drove home again. Oh it's a 120k unit.
Hell if an injection block pinto can see 7200 all day long then I'd think a zetec should be able to.

In standard spec the 2.0L is supposed to run out of power 6100.
Those that can, do; and those that can't, talk about it.
