2.1 ZETEC TURBO T3 QUESTION

Postby zetec RS on Wed Apr 04, 2007 10:54 pm

Hello chaps, Right I got a fiesta RS with a 16v 2.1 zetec that I built, and I have just got a megasquirt and she is pretty much ready to go, My question is - I have a stage one t3 turbo and my friend has said that I will not be able to run anything more than 7 psi as the turbo will not produce enough air flow, I hoped to run around a bar. Can anyone offer me a second opinion or some more advise, cheeRS.

I run 21psi peak on my standard and original S1 turbo so cant see why you cant run 1 bar on a stage 1 turbo!

Hi, is that on a 1600 cvh? my mate was saying as the zetec is 2.1 it has larger bores (86mm to be exact) thus it would need alot more air than what the t3 can produce.

Yes thats on a 1600

I've seen quite a few ZT's running a T3 at 1 bar or more!

And it wont make any difference wether its on a cvh or zetec it will still boost at 1 bar easy

You could even run the thing at 2 bar if you wanted, just dont expect the turbo to last long

From what engine did that T3 came from? ERST? Sierra Cossie? Even a ford?

If its from a ERST, that turbo it's too small for a 2lts or 2048cc engine. With Trim50 compressor it can boost around 1.1bar and anything over that will getting it to over rev killing it.

If its from a sierra cossie, it's the best option with the best of both worlds. Aceptable lag and can suply air for your engine up to it's con rods rpm limit: 7200rpm.

For the best performance on the cheap: escort cossie T34 with std 0.63 A/R ex housing :D

Your mate is kind of right. At 1 bar, a 2 litre zetec is happy making 250bhp (on a T34). A 45 trim T3 just can't flow that much air, so you'll be over-speeding it. It'll be fine for short blats, but i'm not sure i'd want to be doing daily flat out runs in it. T34 really, really is the better turbo for this engine.
