Umm right, well I hope that goes well for you! Zoom zoom zoom! I thought you were building a Ford, not a Mazda!
I would've dearly loved to have seen power figures with the mechanical pump and with the electric pump, really glad to see you've fitted one though Am I right in thinking you've got as far as wiring in and installing the DTA ECU, or is that still to come?

my bad a new loom its is meant to say
The Zetec has problem with cooling as standard so it had to be done
Ive got the DTA and sent off my design to Simtek for them to make up so when i get it i'll be doing that
I'm glad i'm back on it as its been some time ago since i did any work on it

Dash looks smart What do we have there then, bar the two obvious indicator lights? The sump's a good find at £600 if that includes fittings!

from left to right. Oil, side light, hand brake, left indicator, right indicator, brake fluid level, fog lights, battery
that does include all fittings and is brand new never used or fitted

Well I hope you remember what they all are - you'll be stripping the engine to replace bearings and oil pump when all you have is a flat battery otherwise! That's a good buy with the dry sump kit then!!

Not going to happen as the oil light is over the SPA oil pressure/temp gauge.

The kits from pace and titan were never made for FWD cars but i thought to myself i need one and have to make it fit
The sump fits but a modification to the old oil pump is needed, almost all the internals have been taken out as it will no longer provide the pressure. as you can see the new pump is meant to bolt the back of the sump but the drive shaft will hit it so it has to be moved to the front.
The problem with it been at the front is you need a Escort alternator and bracket but its still to low to clear the fitting of the pump so i've made a bracket to move it up about 50mm and out 7mm, doing this i've had to modify the water pump as you can see, this was done in preparation for the sump when i fitted the electrical water pump as the stage 3 kit you get a water pump pulley kit that will not fit a FWD engine bay
I've just got to make and weld a bracket to the sump to lower the pump and make it adjustable for the belt and give a bit more clearance for the feed pipes and get a longer bit to drive the pump, pipe work and fitting kit for that, a few modifications to the the engine bay to give a little more clearance for the pump pulley

Shame it's a bit late in the day to be lowering the engine to maximise on the benefits to be had by fitting a dry sum!

This car is a really serious piece of kit! The sheer amount of planning, graft AND money gone into it is admirable! Loving the idea of the 'leccy water pump, the dry sump will free up a horse or 5 as well as being a safer and more predictable lubrictation setup
Glad to see it progresses still, can't wait to see the end result

Thanks mate
A custom CNC machined bracket well be made up then i'll weld that to the sump, i should have a good place for my pump, once thats done i will measure up for the new belts witch isn't a problem as RS components sell belts the right pitch and size for my needs, i'll also need a new alternator belt. When all thats done i'm going to see if it fits in the bay.. its going to be tight but if not out will come the angle grinder. The rest is just pipes and tanks.

I got it because of the size of the pump
Top bit of kit but could be improved on the option outlets on the sump so you can have them in front like pace has on there's.

Been a bit slow on the car right now as i've been busy with work and other peoples cars, been welding a new chassis leg into my mates RS2000 and other things but managed to do a bit on mine again
I got a call from Simtek about my loom and to have one built to my spec it would cost £1500+vat but now managed to find someone that will make me a race spec loom for £550 ( Uk car looms ). That will be built in about 2 weeks as i'm off on my holiday so it will be ready for me when i get back.
The Dry sump is coming along well, I've decided that i'm now selling the Zetec alloy pulley set now as there not needed plus there to wide so i'm swapping back to a CVH set for more clearance for the oil pump pulley, got all the belts that are the right size and the sump will be welded up for a new mounting bracket that i CNC machined up.
Ordered the 5L Oil tank, breather and one way valve from pace so when i get the tank i can mount it in the engine bay next to the bulk head.

Its been a bit but the pics say it all
The set up
The new bracket that i welded to the sump
The new pulley thats been shortened for clearance
You also have to find room in the engine bay for these too

Re: 250+bhpN/A 2.1 Zetec 16v Orion, dry sump time
Just a little update
I have to to a bit of cutting to the alternator bracket as the fitting for the pump hit it, not a problem.
I think i will have to take the engine out this weekend to do the cutting to the wing as this is the last thing i wanted to do

Never feels good to cut up a Titan sump, needs must as my manifold hit it before and now it doesn't
Just got to weld up the hole and make sure the flow of oil runs to the pick up pipes
Next thing i have to sort out is pipe work and oil cooling

Wow!!!
I'v not seen this threat before. At first glances it loks awesome. Really good to see someone put so much time, effort and money into an N/A project.
As your getting a new exhaust will you be interested in selling me your old manifold??. As I have a 1.8 focus in need of some breathing space.
