278mm Disc questions

Hi there,

Some disc questions. for a 278mm front setup on my MK3.

For now i have the 4x4 cosworth setup, but i'm not happy with my wheel centring. The alloy doesn't get centered on the Hub, due to the mandatory usage of a spacer )-:

Now i've been looking at using other discs with the cosworth 4x4 calipers.

4x4 discs: 278mm : 36mm height : Spacing of caliper 6mm
2wd discs: 283mm : 55mm height : Spacinf of caliper -13mm
Mondeo/cougar V6 discs: 278mm : 47mm height : Spacing of caliper : -5mm

Is there a 278 /283 mm disc that fits ford with 4 holes and a height of 42 or 44mm..
This way i could still use the 4x4 calipers and have 278mm/283mm discs .. but my wheel get centered on the hub again (i could use a smaller spacer)

i don't want to modify my calipers more than 2mm due to strength issues.

Some advice please!!!

Your options are:

278 x 55 (cut down 2WD Cossie)
278 x 53 (redrilled Granada Cosworth RWD)
278 x 48.5 (redrilled Focus c-max, 25mm thick!)
278 x 47 V6 Mondeo
278 x 36 Escort/Sierra Cossie 4x4

...I've looked into this! :D

Remember the thickness of the mounting flange affects your final offset, and varies from 7.0mm (cossie) to 8.5mm or even 9mm in some others! You can adjust this within reason... (5.5mm minimum I'd suggest)

Jur, try using hub-centric spacers to give you the clearance you need and also retain wheel centralisation :)

I've thought of that earlier .. but the ' problem' is i still have just 5mm of centring hub left after using the wheel spacer. Using a spacer with centring hub wil not fit.. and spacing the wheel out further will give me other problems..
So the only sollution i have is changing the offset of both disc and caliper.. so i could use less wheel spacing..

final choice..

Mondeo V6's 278*47*24 with a 5mm spacer (machined down to 130mm) behind it to space out the disc

usage of the current (cosworth) calliper.
and this will give me another 5mm of hub centric ring.. creating a total of 8mm (i said earlier it was 5mm.. but it should have been 3)

my wheel will now centre on 3mm of hub centric ring now .. which should be enough.
