2i suspension better for 60mm drop?

Postby eXtreme-fiesta on Tue Jun 10, 2003 7:14 pm

Hi :)

I understand xr2i's are 25mm lower as standard than other fiesta's such as 1.3's etc.. so i wondered would the suspension from a 2i and the dampers etc.. be able to cope better with just 60mm springs (not the full kit), rather than my current suspension which is just a standard fez one. Its quite hard to explain to myself really, but the 2i suspension should in theory be better for the drop as its already been dropped as standard.

Let me know if im talking rubbish and i'l shut up, but those of you who can answer my question then cheers, il nip off to the scrappy and put the 2i suspension setup on and prepare myself for the -60mm lowering springs.

Hi m8, the XR2i's are same height as other Fezza's, its the RS Turbo that is 25mm lower as standard. But the setup you want to use would work, but the ride might be a bit harsh.

Hi, well im pretty sure the 2i dampers as standard are Gas filled, which makes them better units. The setup would have a noticable difference.

I want more opinions on this before you go ahead with it. I'm pretty damn sure the XR and RS suspension units are both 25mm lower than base models actually. And Jamie - the shocker isn't just going to cope better with the shorter springs the XR/RS cars have as standard, it's most likely going to be shorter itself. So you have a shocker which should take a 25mm shorter springs than base model cars, so if you put your -60mm springs on those, I guess you'll be dropping around 85mm. Whether that's true or not, you're still making a shock absorber ride constantly at 60mm lower than it was designed to ride, and shorten its life drastically. Please wait for more opinions before you go ahead with this just because you have the springs available.

Don't bother mate, have my old 2i springs/shocks when you grab the seats. Its just more space eating junk to me...

RSTs are 25mm (or therabouts) lower than XRs. Think most springs will be "xxx drop for an RST" so don't be too shocked when you put "-30mm" springs on a shopping trolley and find its 80mm lower!

Sounds pretty feasible.
