it'll be cheaper and more cost effective to just put a Turbo lump in.

I would say get quotes on a turbo, and on a 2i that has a turbo lump in it. Either way - probably more cost effective to sell the 2i and buy a Turbo :D

:o :o sell the 2i :aaah: :aaah: Ive spent a fair bit on it, lowered, alloys, corbeaus, bad boy bonnet, spoiler, stereo, alarm and loads of other bits. Id rather keep the car, just needs more power and turbos are sweet :D. I like the car just want some extra  at the lights!!

same dilemma

Postby blondecruiser on Wed May 22, 2002 4:33 pm

:o :-? sounds like ya in da same boat as me LOL, ive got a later model 1800 zetec 2i and im desperate 4 a dump valve haha!!!
ive spent a fortune on body kit etc and about 2 spend even more so i dont want 2 sell it just 2 buy a festa turbo instead, at the same time i dont wanna drop a turbo lump in there cos that defeats my whole point of buyin a newer engine zetec in the first place!!
so i guess im gonna hav 2 go down the route of turboin [ERRR] ive got, but gees it sounds expensive!!!!! :( :-?

The cheapest you'll get your zetec turboed for is about 1k. And that's doing all the work yourself. Alternatively you could pay closer to 3k and get someone else to do it for you...

Well, my and my mechanic are currently looking into doing this as a side line to his business. I find the customers and he finds the engines and does the job. You're looking at about £1000 for a complete engine fitted and running. We can normally complete the work in a day but an overnight stay in London might be in order. The advantage of doing it with us is that you get to help if you like and we'll add any extras on as we go. I.E. Samco's, dump valve bigger intercooler etc. We can also fit a T3 Escort engine instead of the FRST. Save upgrading later.

My mail address is thegilly@hotmail.com which you can fire any questions off to if you wish.

People to talk to about how good a job we do are:

FFDave
Iceman
Me!
Keiran
to name but a few.

Why do you use an escort engine with it's archaic injection system, when the FRST system is more easily mappable?

this WILL cost atleast £2.5-£3k to have it done "properly" including all the parts needed and management set-up.

The Gilly :Iceman

:o

To do a proper conversion, u need at least a grand to sort everything out. I've done my conversion at Billy n that save me loads  with quality workmanship. He might even let u sleep in a WRX :bonkers:

Mind ya, a conversion is not guess puttin a lump in n drive. I've spend another grand to sort every bits out. So most of my parts R new  Powerwise....get used to it within a day or so. Ask Gilly n FFDave on [ERRR] I said when I first drive my RS.

If u need to do the conversion, look for Billy from Gilly. Some place nearer? I'm from Glasgow

PS: Gilly, need lumps? Got loads here.

All I guess I need to reiterate is that you may well need an insurance report to get the car insured and insurance may well be higher than an FRST, but since you've modified it already, that's a given.

You'll need rad, intercooler, lump, gearbox, ECU, loom, amal valve, charge carrying pipework, turbo and full exhaust system and that's more or less it. Everything else from the 2i 8v can be used.

Sorry folks but this isn't the right forum :(

wasn't saying you had to go for the ERST it's just that we've got one here ready to go in. I would stick with the FRST where possible but it's easier to tune the ERST isn't it?
