2litre black top into RS1800?

Postby wayners1800 on Mon Apr 25, 2005 11:45 am

Hi,

I've been offered a 2001 20k mile 2litre black top mondeo lump. I've read the excellent guide on here about fitting the 2.0 silver top, but I need to know if anyone has fitted a black top? Would the box and my manifolds fit ok? My car is a 94 M mk3.5 Fiesta RS1800.

Cheers

Wayne.

I think the 1800 inlet manifold will be ok. Im not 100% though.

I know the Black tops will def fit in, but are alot more work. The engine mounts need modding and so does the pulley system for auxillary stuff. I think the aux pulley system uses the flat side of the belt or something?

I got my info off 18rs on here, I know he's got a black top in his RS1800.

hello, yes they do fit there are a couple of things to do though the cheap way of doing it is to use your sump as the mondie 1 wont fit that easy you will also have to use your rs1800 inlet and exhaust manifolds plus injectors or get earlyer 2.0, 1s, then theres the pullys you need to weld some of you outer pullys casing on the mondie 1 not to sure how to explain it really will get some pics if you need them , its a bit of work but its worth it could do it in a few hours if you no how :aviator: its a good engine you also have to look at the ecu side of things as well i used my rs1800 ecu and a unichip and got 150bhp and 146.5 lbft but as yours is a 3.5 fez you can use a early 2.0 ecu and run on that but have cheaked when done you may still need a remap , good luck :D

i dont think that they have vvt only on st170 ,well they are a much lighter engine than the silver top , better flowing head teflon coated pistons , solid tappits ,baffled sump , they are agood n/a engine but can be turned into a turbo very easy as same engine as focus rs so can use parts from that , :D

Not strictly true, the series 3 weigh roughly the same as the series 2. Late S3's had a plastic cam cover but the weight loss is offset by the heavier 2 piece sump.

Late series 2's had teflon coated piston skirts.

The S3 is no easier to turocharge than an S1 or 2. All the FRS parts fit the series 1 and 2 engines.

So if i use silvertop 2.0 inlet and exhaust manifolds, modify pulley system and engine mount and use the silvertop 2.0 ECU - This is all thats needed to make it fit? Also 18RS if you could get some pics for me that would be apreciated mate

Whats the crack with the engine mounts of this type of conversion then?
Those that can, do; and those that can't, talk about it.
