2ltr engine conversion----

Postby wakeboardtom on Mon Nov 27, 2006 12:25 pm

okay just after a little help. i have a 1991 ford fiesta mk3 with a 1.6S engine in it. It is not an Si engine or xr2i. I havent seen many of these engines before. I thought it was a xr2 engine to begin with. Quite confused me to be honest. Anyway im going to put a 2ltr mondeo engine in it very shorty but before i do so i just need to know a few things... :-
- do i need to change teh wiring loom
-what else do i need to do diferently to my engine conversion as apose to converting from an Si engine.
-Also my car has no power steering, will this affect the engine conversion?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers Tom

That guide probably won't help as you don't have injection, therefore you probably only have a really simple car loom which will need changing to a 16v MK3 one (ideally). This has all the wires for injection stuff and the extra wire to the fuse box as used by cars with a cat fitted.

Sorry  I didn't mean to suggest you had given him useless information or anything :bonkers: , just thought I would point out that it's very unlikely he has a full injection loom in there. With his car, it requires just as much work as my 1.1 carb job did :( (Although that was far from difficult :))

:P (I have no reason to post that smiley, but I felt like it  :bonkers: )

What would you lot do if u were me then, how would you get it done?
I cant do it myself as i have not got the tools or even the knowledge. I wouldnt know were to start! So do i pay a garage to do it or what??

No garage will do such a conversion - too long winded process.

Your best bet is to buy one already done :P

Doing a engine change is stressful enough. Let alone doing someone elses conversion.

Your looking at at least £1000 for the 2.0 ltr engine with everything you need. That would be a basic conversion as well.

Its all manual labour involved. I recomend you pull your finger out and start to learn about engines like i did. All i did was buy 2 haynes manuals, got some basic tools and started doing little bits myself. Once you learn how to use a spanner your half way there mate ....

Have a good read through that guide and think about your next move.

No problem :D

I started on my 1.1 doing the spark plugs , ignition leads, battery etc. Then on my xr2i i got a bit more adventurous , changed the oil/filter, changed the shocks and springs, Renewed the brake pads & brake discs. Then went onto replacing the whole engine.

All from reading one book :Q

why not try and pick up a cheap mot failure/pile of crap mk3 1.6 si.
then use the loom from that, switch it over into yours, and a few changes on the pin arrangements and you could run a 2.0 ecu aswell

I have a guide on my site, its ment for a 1.6 SI but the most of it you can use, perhaps seek that other guide on here for the wiring changes etc

http://www.teamford.co.uk/webpage/fiest ... ersion.htm

If you cant do it yourself then it looks like you'll have to do without unless you dont mind spending major £££

Thats not entirely true, theres a garage near me called Fiesta centre, they specialise in mk1,2,3 fiestas mainly and i think they would be able to do a 2.0lt fiesta conversion.

They are putting my 1.6 XR2i engine in my mint 1.1 fiesta at a cost of only £400.

They are based near Norwich.

if you live close enough it might be worth ringing and asking them

sorry i worded that wrong, £400 is what they will charge to do an entire conversion, including engine, gear box and clutch etc.
