2ltr fez's as much fun as comparitive power RST/1800's?
The mondy and focus 2.0 zetecs are not that uncommon and produce an average power for thier size, as they are/were produced for family cars.
The RS1800 and RST both hit the same 130+ bhp mark as a 2Ltr, however this is because they are tuned/blown from their original state to produce this power.
I know that my 1.6 lump is strong but lazy and doesn't have a 'mental' moment that I understand the RST and RS1800 have in their rev ranges when the cams/boost come in. Will a 2.0 be as lazy (although more powerful) and therefore not as exciting?
I guess this reflects the insurance groups of these three?
I've not been in either of these. The only comparison I have is the 106 GTi and 206 GTi (not GTi 180). The engine in the 106 is crazy but the 206 just seemed to plod it out if you know what I mean!?

Ive never owned/driven an rs1800 or an rst but i have a 2.0l si and in my brothers old escort rs the turbo kicking in was incredible and driving my 2.0l fiesta has no sensation like that.
The 2.0l zetec is pretty fun though, i would say theres alot of torque to play with and since i had a 1.6 zetec before it was a noticable improvement.
Im still saving up to get a fiesta turbo eventually but hopefully guna find a zetec turbo rather than cvh
doubt this has helped much but im bored today!!!

I can't really comment on an RS Turbo, having only ever been out in a slightly ill Escort, but I have been out in the 1.6 Si, a 105PS-engined Popular Plus (mine), a 130PS-engined Si, and a 2.0-engined Si.
Out of all of them, the 2.0 Si was very quick to me (and I have been in some quick cars!). It was running on a 1.6 Si gear box, which didn't feel *too* wrong for it (could may be do with being slightly longer), and it just pulled so nicely. That particular car belongs to ~joeboifiesta~ on here.
The RS1800-engined car was bakewell001's. I don't think we're sure if it's running right or not, as it feels quite lazy until higher up the rev range, at which point it did seem to pull quite nice, but nothing like a 2.0. Like I said though, it could be ill, or may be that's how they are?
Mine (105PS) feels a lot nicer mid-range compared to the 130PS above, but definitely starts to lose the 'pull' above 5/5.5K. The 2.0 felt as though it had the mid-range of mine, and some more, as well as the top-end poke of the 130PS engine, (and some more!), if that makes sense?
Something else to think about though, the RS1800 is not as powerful as the 2.0. The 2.0 is marked as 136PS - something it probably does/did make. The RS1800 (a proper one) is marked as 130PS (about 128BHP), and will still be lucky to make that, even with a well looked after/low mileage engine. I would love to be taken out in a totally standard decent RS1800 to see what it's like, but at the moment I can't justify converting mine to 130 spec, because it just doesn't feel worth it over my 105.
The 2.0 however? Very much worth it, and would very much be my choice over an RS1800.

If you want to rev the nuts out of the engine and give the car large amounts of stick you really can't go wrong with the 2 litre Zetec. However nothing beats the rush of the boost coming in
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience

Thanks for the detailed description dude! Put my mind at rest of an anti-climax when I do the conversion. Gotta get a ride in a turbo one time though!

2ltr
When I had an rs1800 like you say when it came on cam you get a kick, however up to that point it wasnt anything that special.
However when the 1.8 died and the 2ltr went in there was a noticable difference even tho there is only 6 bhp or so difference between the 2. You dont get the 'kick' as such but the boost in torque was excellent giving you a strong pull from low down the rev range right the way to the red line.
Round the twisties I found the 2ltr superb, couple that to a decent suspension setup and a set of cossie brakes and youve got a superb package with the reliabilty of the zetec too.

My 1.6 16v had a kick after 4000 rpm, my 2.0 doesnt, but is soo woth it. Can have it in 5th gear pretty much anywhere and still have some acceleration even at very low speeds. I just love the way it makes the front of the car seem to lift, but can get annoying pulling out of junctions quickly, as it just burns rubber if you get it wrong!
I'd personaly go for a longer box though than the si box, as i feel its not making full use of the torqu and motorway driving is abit too high revs, although droping it down a gear when someone moves out the way and flooring it is well fun! I gave a few cars a run for theur money on the way down to uni.

Just because I keep talking about definetly doing it doesn't mean I'm actualy going to do it.
