Just fitted mine the other day so trust me it depends on what reg (or what doors your car has) ive got a mk3 Hreg 1.1 and they were a little more difficult to fit, you have to make the hole where the adjuster arm goes through a lot wider. If your cars a mk3.5 i think the holes are in the rite place. If not you make it From this:

(___________)X
......xXXXXXXXX
(CUT OUT WHERE ALL THE 'X's ARE)
using a file will a long time, and if you got a dremel or somthing like that you gonna need loads of blades. I got that bored with filing it i used a drill to drill loads of holes hext to each other then bent em using a screwdriver, riped the points off with pliers and filed the sharp parts down. Not a pretty resuly but who cares...its covered up.
If you can get one of them sideways cutting driil bits (like on tv) i imagine they would be great if they work!!
If you got a doors like mine you will also need to drill a third hole (above the hole above) for the top securing arm to be bolted thorough to the car....a holes drilled on the outer skin but its big so you need to guess the position iof the interal one and make the hole bigger until you find fits (if you drill it to big dont worry just slap a big washer on it like i did, problem solved.......lol.
just making you aware of any probs you mite have before you start.......
if its like mine was its not gonna be a 20min job your gonna be looking at about 3hours maybe.........so dont let it go dark outside like i did and ended up using a torch to see what i was doin to finish it...lol.
although u may be luck and have the doors already drilled for you.
Hope it helps.....tell us all how you go on.

Naah the car's not mine, its Ian FRST's. (cheers for the pic Ian)
Funnily and very weirdly the Mk3.5 mirrors were a STRAIGHT swap on my doors!!! No filing or messing about!!

if the car is an mk3.5 then it'll have the mk3.5 mirrors in the first place!
