Postby bassboy on Fri Feb 04, 2005 11:07 pm

motorcyclesfish - its mint around there mate :D no worries to be had there...the rest of the car is sound...just the rear arches were a bit mashed...car has never had an accident so no dodgy panels with paint missing from dents in weird cant be seen places

FezzR..thanx mate...hopefully will get everything sorted asap

max...never thought u were taking the piss...a few people have actually asked that question...and when people realise my VW background they realise what approach im taking with my car...not only this turbo...but with all my future cars...i believe in being subtle :Q

quick update...had a word with the sprayer today and he said whenever im ready he'll be waiting to spray it! he's gonna help me do all the welding etc with the new wings as well...should be sorted in about a month or so :aviator:

can u get a pic of it up? more than likely use ali mesh and fibre glass it in place to the bumper or wherever the hole is from the inside...then fibreglass or fill over it to bring it level...job done

max, what to do is get some aluminium mesh and fibreglass it to the back of the bumper to fill in the hole...next get some fibreglass or some filler and fill over the hole onto the mesh, then its a case of sanding and re-filling over and over again to the exact contours of the bumper...a bit of a advice would be to filler around the hole your filling to just so you can blend it into the bumper better...its a bit hard to explain though...

if you look at the pics of my bonnet and how im filling in the hole you will get what i mean...well when i come around to finishing it lol

I get what you mean, might buy some bits tomorrow.

Does it matter that the hole is quite deep though?

nope does not matter whatsoever...just make sure you build up the layers of filler and dont apply deep layers straight away or they will take longer to cure...you can build up deep layers straight away if you wanted but you will have to wait a while for them dry thoroughly

oh and i forgot to say its entirely up to you whether you want to buy bumper filler or normal filler...just remember to key the plastic properly before you start filling :)

When i smoothed the towing eye on my bumper i cut out the recces and taped a piece of card over the front of the bumper then lay chopped strand glassfibre over the rear when this had set i removed the card and skimmed over the front of the bumper with normal filler this never cracked at all and is better done this way as then you will not have a inch and half of filler in the recess.

hey peeps...been working in the garage all day today and thought i would let you know about my progress...

well first thing was to completely finish the rear bumper off...

first thing was to smoothen and apply filler to the new number plate light recess

Image

then carry on doing so untill the desired finish was required...then a quick trial fit:
Image

everything looked fine and the finished article like this
Image

Image

Image

however, i will double check the height of the light tomo when i have more energy and see if its low enough for me...if its not then plan B comes into action

rear bumper FINALLY complete

Image

next place to attack was my bonnet...when i bought the car there had been a few dents on the bonnet where the owner must have pressed down on to shut the bonnet

Image

angle grinded away the paint
Image

filled and then smoothed also finished the de-badging :top:
Image

next area was to start work on the front bumper

after being advised to drill holes into the bumper before filling, i did so
Image

filled up the line in the bumper
Image

and that leaves me where i ended tonight...tomo will carry on with the front bumper

:top: :top: :DD: :DD:

dont think you will find it cheaper max...i went to Maccess (trade place) and even they were doing it for £4 plus VAT! so only about a quid cheaper or so...but let me know if you do lol

the filler doesnt flex as such...it dries rock hard but has the ability to bend a bit more than normal filler...its the way the particals are able to stay connected within their elastic range :D i just made myself sound clever lol

max its ALOT cheaper prepping the stuff yourself...but one thing to keep in mind is that the finish of the paintwork is down to the prep work!

Euro Style, But not at such a sharp angle. As it wont match the indicator.

Yea actually  Transporter should line up with the indicator at the front as its pretty square and then the wheel arch is quite curved.

Nice gauges!

Max - the point of that rev counter is that the big light flashes when you've hit the redline which you can set yourself so that you can change gear when peak power/torque is hit :)

With bassboy's install he's going to want to keep an eye on the volts and having a turbo car means you want to keep an eye on pretty much everything involved with boost, fuel and temperature!

:)

Andy

P.S. Pyrometer - never heard that expression before but EGT stands for Exhaust Gas Temperatures ;)

hi max, pyrometer is basically EGT as andy has said and im sure you'll be glad to know that the rev counter is not going in (well not that one any way lol)....i just posted it up so you can see what the blue lights illuminate like :aviator:

the reason for so many guages is because they will look good in the dash IMO and they dont cost as much as a stack dash by FAR lol

cheers for the comments everyone! just waiting for Chris to get back to me with the prices now
