37K Ford Fiesta
Re: 37K Ford Fiesta
Progress looks good...
Question though, If you don't mind me asking? How much were the two front wings? Can't be that much, £20-£30 each?

Re: 37K Ford Fiesta
just added a few more things to my ebay buys lol
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tetra-Tetrosy ... _914wt_952
Got this to finish off the underside , i know i started off with grey in the cans but i found the cans was rubbish and dont leave a good finish at all , so 3 litres should be plenty to cover the underside fully and with a gun should leave a nice textured effect to , if any one can advise on running psi pressure ideal for spraying this stuff would be great

not as yet ,
1. my welder desided to play up so i stuck it on ebay for spares or repairs ( needed new torch )
2. im debating if to bolt them on , saves any mistakes if it needs any adjustments once its all welded up

Re: 37K Ford Fiesta
dont bolt them , will look wack and unoriginal
could bond it on, glue it under the lip that sits under the bonnet shut line, then botl it behind the side repeater and bond behind thebumper

Re: 37K Ford Fiesta
not keen on bonding them on , could be a bit of a pain , bolting on wont be to bad and all the bolt heads would be painted to match and be as kept as small as possibly , but your right the bolts would annoy me.
i just dont want to have it all welded on and then a wing or something needs moving over and have to drill them off

Re: 37K Ford Fiesta
I'm converting the wings on my Si to bolt on, the bodyhsop are going to do it to the gen wings I've given them.
I'm using stainless rivnuts and button head bolts.

Re: 37K Ford Fiesta
im geussing the bottom rivnuts sits flush on the inner wing , and you then put the bolt through the wing screwing it down onto the inner wing? are they fitted in with standard rivet gun?

If you look around the Mk3 shell (or any post 90's car come to think of it) you will see them dotted around for non-structural fixings, they are seriously handy things. I recommend M4 for the wings and if you use mild steel then you won't need a special too;l if you can visualise in your head how the work then it becomes clear how to make your own:
If you want to use stainless M4 or mild steel M4-M8 then get one of the cheaper hand tools like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Silverline-633942-Threaded-Rivet-Insert/dp/B000WTJPLO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1319994168&sr=8-3
Anything over M8 then get a decent tool, I got this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Laser-3736-Heavy-Duty-Riveter/dp/B0012MB3RO/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1319994184&sr=8-4 ignore the fact it's branded as Laser; I usually wouldn't touch their kit with a barge pole but this a quality item made by another firm, just re-branded by whoever sells it (Stanley and Draper sell the same item).

Re: 37K Ford Fiesta
from what i can see and understand the heads are sqashed down and the head squezes between the sheet you are riviting them too , leaving half of the head on the back of the pannel which leave it attached?
so am i right saying you could use just a nut and bolt , bolt at the top through the rivnut, nut at the bottom to hold it still, and turning the top nut to compress the head?? cant see the need for the metal peice?

Re: 37K Ford Fiesta
just got the rivnuts and tool today , tool is made by silverline , now i know they are low budget tools and not known for great quality , but they are now offering life time gaurentee on most tools by the seems of things , i have a coolant drop tester from them too and that also had a life time gaurentee
wasnt expecting the rivnuts to be so small for the bolts, M4 , should do the job though

nice stuff, was gonna buy that same tool
countersunk screws probably werent the best choice though, you could try and countersunk the wing holes but its a bit thin metal for that

I'm using button head stainless bolts on mine. I was umming and ahhing over whether to paint the bolts or not, but in the end just settled for unpainted stainless.
