FiestaBen :
jonyb4 :it doesnt appear to be in best mechanical condition given the milage, was it mainly kept outside?

best looking part is the brake pipes

so just because it's low mileage, it's not expected to have 3 problems?

id hardly expect a snapped coil after 40k miles, my car was on 90k and had it original coils before i lowered it

just saying its odd, must have seen the wrong end of a pot hole a few times :P

if i were you rhys, id lower it 30mm maybe some Xr 8v alloys and a Si/Xr spoiler and it will look great :aviator:

personally id leave it standard, but upgrade the crappy bits, central locking, electric windows, actually remote central locking, a 1.6 zetec/cvh
remote boot release, electric mirrors, just everything like that, but leave it looking standard, OEM+ at its finest :)

just been doing a bit more degreasing on the car wheel arches , and cleaned the one and only silver steelie on the car

now i need help from you people either...

Spray rest of steelies silver to match or find new silver steelies with no trims

leave steelies as they are and use wheel trims

spray black with no trims

heres a few pics

unless you get a good set of trims that match the car i say paint them all silver.
if your going for trims, then paint them black

i could be wrong, but i would of thought base spec (which didnt come with hub caps) would of had silver and those that did have caps came with black, so maybe the spare was silver or someone get a wheel from elsewhere somewhere along the lines

the older base spec very early mk3s had silver steels liek them (doritos i call them due to the little triangles) which had small hub caps fitted :Q

id try to find some original mk3 trims myself and paitn them all satin black, it an be done, i have an original trim from my very first car, was a 1.1 freestyle, i can get you a pic of it if you like :)

yeah hammerite will be ok, the problem is getting the rust off, and with it being silver, any little pits will show, unless you fill them but its a bit over kill for a set of rims.

i would spray them over hand paint though unless you know the hand paint is going to flow and remove the brush marks

I love the colour, really unique. If I had your car, I'd get over rider bumpers. Slam it on coilovers, bigger engine. Basically a sleeper, keep it standard and simple. Engine upgrade etc.

But fair play to you for making it mint again, goodluck with it Rhys!

started on the underside today , really could do with a high jack and some high axel stands but there you go we get by.... lol

what i plan to do is remove the surface rust and coroded areas of the underside of the car , and then spray over the bare metal areas with a metal zinc primer to protect the area ,

but do i use waxoyl or underseal ?

i plan to paint the underside with hammerite

or do i just get the colour hammerite i want then waxoyl over the top with clear ?

ive bought some metal brush on primer which im going to use on areas that im working on , areas that are still good ill be leaving to keep fords original stuff on there as its better stuff , plus more protection with double the coats :)

so going to metal primer the bare metal areas that are being wire brushed, followed by " Silver grey" Hammerite paint and then waxoyl ontop for added protection
