I'm using button head stainless bolts on mine. I was umming and ahhing over whether to paint the bolts or not, but in the end just settled for unpainted stainless.

What do you mean? Don't you you like it?

Just my opinion, but I would remove the wings, refit the bolts loosely and then use some pliers to straighten up the angle of the rivnuts. I would then swap those Pan Heads for some Button Heads and use a larger diameter washer under them to spread the load to prevent paint damage.

yeah im not a fan unforatuntly , yeah ive been thinking try a diffirent style head bolt and see how that looks , will get those rivnuts tweeked over a bit too then , i knew they wasnt straight sound advice again.

Pretty easy to go to weld on mate, just weld up the holes on the inner wing flange and grind flat, then use the holes you've drilled in the wings to weld the panel on.

yeah its more a case of i dont have a welder no more, and dont really know any one else

okay its not " original " then at car shows etc i can see the bolt on wings being picked up alot

No they're definitely not the choice if you want to keep it original, but they offer a big functional improvement over original fit.

yeah thats right and due to me not having a welder its also quicker too. at the bottom by the valence there is faily large gaps , will the seam sealer be ok to fill those gaps? the bolts do not pull it right up tight to one another plus the pannels are not flat due to way been manufactured which also doesnt allow them to meet closely

nah thats scrap , i dont have a car the mk4 needed bit of welding and various other repairs , wasnt worth it

tax and mot had run out


if im paying for tax and mot , i may aswell wait and get the project car on the road

by done right i mean, stripe the cat off, take the tyres off and sell then weight the wheels in, then get the scrap company to collect it, most dont charge (here atleast)

should make over £200 that way

my mate done so with a mk6 escort with alloys albiet worth more, earned about £355 so not bad compared to about £140 for just weighing the car in

nah sord ebay, no one really needs mk4 parts as theyre so readily available from breakers etc

and its an encore so theres sod all on it

just use breakers and metal salvagers and you will get plenty of money

cars now covered up defeating the snow and ice and wet weathers just need a half decent day to carry on

no not finished any bare metal greased up, shouldn't be to bad as its underneath and no water will get to the underside to be honest , car isnt going any where

front ends nearly complete now just a few more nuts and bolts to do , and then be ready for spraying, my plan is to give the wings their first coat , fit them onto the car and then spray the front end all in one go , to save any scratches while fitting

this also means i can then seam seal them all on before next coat of paint and have the front end looking complete and finished

washers came in the post today so tried a few out , looks much better




the countersunk bolts actually works very well when used with a washer

ah thats better, be better if they were black washers, once its bolted on, slap a load of seam sealer on the edges of the wings, especially where it meats the front top valance

Finished off this side of the wing today, checked out lines up and looks pretty good , Just coated the inner wing with first primer and then black paint

once i get the seam sealer might Seam seal that area to keep any water away and then repaint black
