Make sure you do some other mods first,don't go straight for twin carbs.After you have the head ported+fitted with bigger valves,fitted a fast road cam and a vernier pulley,then think about the carbs,they ain't worth it on a standard motor.

Get a kam kit (around £200 20bhp)
Chipped (£150 10bhp)
Get it R.R after your mods theyll get it set up the best way for the car (Around £80)
And if an extra 30bhp aint enough youre gona half to splash the cash for Nitrous or twin 40's

is there anyway you guys can put together a list of what is good to do and where you can get them and approximate cost i.e best cam kits, where to get twin webbers pulleys etc i would rather get everything together first and put it all on in one go then should be able to notice a big difference obviusly bigger brakes etc would be required with the increase in power right? just at a rough guess with everything done what would the total BHP be after its RR?

Every1's got the right idea here. Basically, here's where methinks you want your wad to go:-
* New timing belt, oil (10w50) and brake fluid (DOT 5.1 seems to be recommended) - £10, £30 and £10
* EBC drilled & grooved discs and pads - £130
* Braided brake hoses - £50
* Sports shocks and springs if you have Ford kit on at the mo' - £300
With the remaining money, I would well recommend a set of performance leads, (I think the blue silicon Splitfire leads are about £30 and are all you will need) and plugs (£25 a set-ish) and then get the carb serviced and optimally tuned - no need for a RR session just yet.
The theory is that you will have far more confidence in the car if you can hammer into bends quickly (good suspension) and stop quickly (great brakes). Having a powerful car's no good if you don't have the confidence to handle it to it's full extent.
After that it's gonna be:-
* stage 3 head conversion (port & polish, fast road cam and pocket the pistons ('cos the valves will bash 'em otherwise), solid lifters) - £350-£450?
* 4-2-1 exhaust manifold (don't bother with S/S jobs as they tend to split along the bottom welds) - £200
* Vernier pulley timing gear - £60-ish?
* Rolling road tune - £????? but get the best you can afford
Sooooo... around £1145 plus the cost of the RR.
