Postby fray on Thu Jun 21, 2007 11:55 pm

Ive got a vibe vp2 amp 200x2 at 2ohm (defo) 100x2 4 ohm (i think) to run a set of 6x9s. Ive got a set ov sonys at the mo but they am s**t.

Im after a set of 6x9s that will give the the most treble, i ain't bothered bout bass [ERRR] i av my amp set to treble setting, the cbr12 active runs the bass.

my mate has some jvc's which nearly make your ears bleed the treble is so loud but wondered if any ov u lot can reccommend sum to me

ive seen a set ov jbl's which are 2 ohm the rest seem to be 4 ohm, wot difference will this make :-? :-?

replace all the standard speakers [front doors and ones in the rear next to parcel shelf] with aftermarket ones, assuming you have a MK3.

In the front I would put a set of decent comps and in the rear just some 13cm speakers.. just remember you sit in the front not the back. So you want the decent sound upfront. All 6x9's do is produce high volumes so your rear passengers will be shouting at you when trying to talk. [usually]

Plus you will look like a chive with 6x9s in your self.. unless you go stealth.

I will go 4 the idea ov 13cm speakers in the front of an amp but would rather have 6x9z on the shelf than under those grills.

Can u reccomend a good set ov 6x9z or dow u use em at all also a good set ov 13cm speakers

ta mate :D

I don't have any 6x9's in my car, but I guess if your looking to buy some at an affordable price and decent quality go for some JBL's.

sound mate, liked the jbl's anyway.

the jbls am 2 ohm and the others i looked at am 4 ohm. wots the difference? i think its somet like more wattage can flow thru em [ERRR] the resistance is lower in the speaker :-? :-? is that right?

Bin the 6x9's all you will get is noise not a nice a sound. Spend the money on the best set of components you can afford and amp them and run a sub.

You really don't want treble coming from behind you as it is largely the treble that will give the imaging. Think of when you got to a concert, you stand facing the band not with your back to it

do you have the bass drum behind you at a concert?

6x9 are better than what people make out if your after the fuller sound, ive had componets and 6x9 (6x9 are cheaper in comparison) people say Spend the money on the best set of components you can afford (120 quid for a cheap set) or 90 quid you can get kenwoods 7x10, amp these up and you will have all the treble and midrange you will need and if you dont want to have a sub in your car then flick the switch on your amp too full range and they will sound pretty bassy.

if its just treble your after get a couple of tweeter horns

No, but the reason people but the sub in the boot is because of the size...pretty hard to run a sub in the front of your car.

And the fact that bass is movement of large volumes of air more than sound and isn't responsible for producing the imaging of the sound. 6x9's most people with experince of car Hi-Fi knowledge know this. Good for the kiddies though.

don't 6x9s just distort someone any treble that comes out of it?
And if you want some good treble, its best for the treble to be in the front of the car facing you, rather then right at the back where the bass is supposed to be.

spot on DK and Oranaco! 6x9s are a waste...im just off to do an install in one of my customers cars....he wanted 6x9's but he walked away with quality components all round...

this thing will sound so crisp and clean you will soon forget about what 6x9s were lol

he will also run a 15" sub in one of my own custom boxes and with me setting it all up...the closest place a 6x9 will be to his car is the nearest bin!!

oh and its right about 6x9s or 7x10's giving loads of bass and not needing a sub...this is the ONLY time such speakers should be used as they give good bass response....but why have bass from these speakers when a system SHOULD be setup CORRECTLY and the mdrange speakers in the car will be producing the correct notes and its cut-off frequency will be where the sub picks up and plays the lows? where are the need of 6x9s when the mids and sub have everything in control....also any component kit will out play the 6x9s in terms of quality...

hope this helps and sorts the argument
