6x9 speaker inteference...help please

Postby icewater01 on Fri Mar 23, 2007 1:53 pm

I have wired up my 6x9's and when the engine is running there is a loud high pitched noise coming from them which gets higher with the revs..i am told this is quite a common problem and is sometimes caused by bad earth or untidy wires but like i say i have tidied all my wires and it still happens..does anybody know how to help?? my amp is currently earthed with another earth on my rear light and i have moved it to the boot catch but nothing changed.its really bugging me.would running the earth back to the engine bay help?

It can only be one cause: You haven't earthed the wires properly.

Kenwood advise:

Your earth wire should be of the same gauge as your power wire and must make direct contact with the body of the car. Look for an existing bolt or screw that makes contact with the car body near the amplifier. Remove the bolt or screw, and scrape away any paint or grease.

A star washer will help your earth wire maintain tight contact with the car body. Use a eyelet terminal on the end of the earth wire, to keep it securely fastened to the bolt or screw.

Agree with Chumkilla on this. Only time I've ever had whining noises it turned out to be the headunit at fault and not my wiring.

ive had this before and it was because my power wire was running next to the rca wires and picked up a signal. could be this reason.
