90000 miles !!!!!!!!!

Postby sihart-frst on Wed Jul 17, 2002 1:25 am

my frst has just hit 90000 miles its totaly standard with full history but im geting bord as its a bit slugish now so had it rolling road tuned the other week and it was only 119bhp to startand only 5 psi boost so aftor setting it up its now 126 bhp whitch isent bad for 90000 miles. the rr tuner say that a 165 evelution chip and a auctuator will put it up to about 170 bhp, but im not shure what to do as it farley high milege whould it still be relible or would it be best to get it rebuilt first. the car dosent smoke at all and doesent drink oil well aboul 1/2 lt every 1000 miles. and how much do the parts cost for a re build bearings, rings etc

it might just be me but my last 1 got to about 120000 and just gave up on me and kept costing mony so i scraped it, and i dont want it to happen again as this 1 is a minter and i want to keep it that way
cheers all si

si....

you dont need a re-build. My car has hit 133k and has not had a complete re-build.
What you should do :

1) new head gasket
2) new cam shaft (wear out every 60k)
3) and replace anything else needing done...valves, stem seals....etc, etc...

thats what i had done, then run it in for 1000 miles then got it chipped. It's been running sweet ever since and still makes 140bhp @ wheels ;)

cheers :)

If the engine is healthy you should be OK. My engine has 85k on it and I'm running a stage 3 head, piper T2 cam and 12-13psi boost. At 8psi it was doing ~130bhp@wheels.

Regular oil changes with good quality oil will help engine life.

Stephen

Tuned motor = less reliable

If you rely on your car don't tune it up... or in fact do any drastic mods

I made that mistake and my car spent more time off the road than on

Anyone else have the same probs?
