hi all! sorry didnt see your reply dave, probably a bit late now eh but in answer to your question, ive never had any problems with doing it that way apart from if it gets too hot but i tend to use the clear sparingly on ally like a dust coating almost

got a little bit more done. got the gearbox back. im STILL waiting for pistons after 6 bleeding weeks so cancelled the order with the last company as i found larkspeed can get them in about 4-5 days so got them coming to me over the next week hopfully due to space i needed to get the car mobil as i may need to get it out my workshop soon so decided to fit the block, crank and flywheel/clutch assembly and gearbox and then refit the front suspension.

also tracked the wheels and bled the brakes so it all ready to go pending engine re-assemble and the usuale hoses etc

there's lots of things id have loved to do to this car during the rebuild but as you all know, these toys are soo expensive! i had to rein it in so the cylinder head and inlet will have to wait till a later date. ive made it though so the bottom end and the box are all good to take a lot of abuse though so its only going to be top end changes, so wont mean major work in the near future

well went to work today, and proptly left the fuel injectors at home so only partially built up the inlet manifold. stripped it all down first off then shot blasted the top and bottom ends, painted them in matt black. also stripped the throttle body and painted that matt also. polished up the idle control valve and trottle spindle ends. reffited those and also fitted a few bits ive had zinc plated and polished the fuel rail for good measure

finally got pistons so fitted up the bottom end







spec is just a simple rebuild/upgrade ATM so standard grind but polished crank journels, lightend flywheel and balanced assembly. steel rods, arp bolts and forged pistons. new standard size crankshaft and big end bearings. gaskets and oil seals (all payen stuff) and standard ford oil pump.
top end is only a piper 285t with gasket matched exhaust ports, stainless exhaust manifold, stage 3 t3 and biege injectors for now










also now runs! fired up first time after spinning it over to get oil pressure round the engine

so, not much more to do. things left are decide what rocker cover im going to use (sierra or frst) still looking for a throttle cable bracket (if you have one spare! please let me know! ) refit all the coolant pipework, radiator and intercooler pipework then go rag the ass i mean go test drive it

seems the RS turbo quality is really taken a hike on here these last few months/year

keep it up, id go for the FRST rocker cover myself

hi all! been a bit of a while since the last set of pics but ive been on me hols and also got my head down and finished the car off rather rapid. ive done about 100 miles in it so far. going to do another 100 miles then oil change to fully synthetic (been using 15w40 mineral oil for running in). so far so good, no oil or water leaks at all which is great, sound very quite and revs nice and smooth gearbox is nice and also soooo good not to have any knocks, rattles, squeeks from any of the suspension or drive train (a breath of fresh air from what it used to be lol) got a few little things left to do. change the intercooler rubber pipes to black samco's for a start! also need a 195 chip (for now) to run a bit of boost through it and im sure i'll find the odd thing along the way. anyway, here it is as its stands

that looks fantastic mate, very fresh, cleana nd tidy! id be very proud, glad its running and driving perfect too, the inlet piping is lovely, very neat, the front cross member is nice too, looks odd since were all used to seing so many holes and recesses in them but good work, its all paid off!

thanks for the kind words fella's the last hole should soon be filled with a new chassis plate but as close to original as i can get which is for a series 1 escort rs turbo


rsturbonutter, i am using the good old XR2i radiator which i have moved vertually all the way over to the offside to give as much room as possible
