Adjusting the tappets

CVH and Zetec tuning, suspension and braking mods.

I have a '93 1.3i (with cat).

I hated the tappet noise so I got them adjusted/tightened, cuz they were loose. They dont make any noise any more, hehe.

BUT, now I, definitly notice a drop in power, and my fuel consumption is double what it used to be - (out of a tenner, or approx 13 gallons, i used to get 150-170miles, now I only get 80-100miles from £10).

I have had the car tested on one of these testing stations, (C02 and lambda???), and the readings are text book, apparently.

Anyone got any ideas what is wrong???

Have the tappets been tightened too much, and is this what is causing my problems.

The guy that the adjustment has recommended I use some injector cleaner, and then give the car a good blast down the motorway. Thing is my drop in power and fuel consumption only occurred after the tappet adjustment, up until then everything was fine.

Any help is much appreciated.
