Air Filter
I have a 1.1 and was looking at maybe changing the air filter. What are my options as i dont think i can fit a cone because it is frying pan style one. Do I get another clamp on style one or just change the filter within? Dont have much idea and not sure where to start, if anyone else has done this or has any advice I would like to hear from you.

Re: Air Filter
You can fit a k&n replacement filter as an upgrade and still use the standard air box:

Another option is to change the airbox and fit a k&n bolt on filter like this:

But if all you want is the 'sporty' sound, then I would just drill holes in the standard airbox.

Re: Air Filter
Thank-you very much for posting links, I dont really want to drill holes in the filter. Can you notice a difference when you change the filter?
Just checked the bolt on filter and apperently there isnt one for a mk3 1.1 95 model

Re: Air Filter
You don't drill holes in the actual air filter, just around the side of the plastic airbox the filter goes in.
Fitting a bolt-on-filter to a 1.3 you won't notice any gain in perfomance. Only a difference in sound, it will have a deeper sporty sound and probably be abit louder.
Thats why I wouldn't bother spending the money on one, I would rather just drill some holes in the airbox.

Re: Air Filter
exactly what fiend said basically
you can spend out on the k&n filter or get the same noise for free buy drilling about 10 holes round the back of the box.
k&n offers no performance gain, i drilled my box on my old 1.3 hcs which will be same as yours and it made such a good noise when u put your foot down would recommend it mate
and its free
