Air filters for.....

Postby DunnysMK3 on Mon Mar 27, 2006 3:50 pm

my 1.3 HCS engine. Are there any direct replacement air filters from k&n, pipercross etc? Or would i need a universal?
Also, if i need a universal, how would i replace the filter? :)

To be honest mate it just isn't worth doing. All you may get is a bit more induction noise and you can get that by taking a 10mm drill bit to your existing air box but due to its position it will just draw in warm engine air.

I's spend the cash on a back box to improve the looks and give it a bit more growl

the 1.1 and 1.3 hcs engines are only distinguishable from the outsied by the number embossed on the block near the alternator 1.3 says 1.3 and 1.1 says 1.0-1.1

the k&n ones do roar sweetly when you go flat out but i'm still wondering what to do when summer comes cos like other have said, it'll just suck in hot air.

Might make a box and tube for it. Hang on, Ford's air boxes were like that anyway *sigh*

Project_mk3. I had something like that in mind, maybe some sort fat v-shape bit on the end would make the filter suck through the pipe? Just throwing ideas in the air at the mo :)

yeah thats a good idea tweek.you can get universal brake ducts in the shape you mention from demon thieves so could be done "fairly" easy, but im not too bothered.BTW its sit lovely where ive got it,below the lip of the bonnet nestled in between the side of the rad and front panel.

I've found part of the air duct off an Audi Coupe or something, it has a round hole one end, turns 90 degrees and then opens up into a fat oval. No idea what the size is but its rubber, flexible and a useful shape.

I shall look into this more once i've got the other 150 problems fixed

k&n bolt on air filter
part number = '56-9042'
got mine from carcraft, but i spose if u get it from ebay you could ask the seller the part number.
(make sure you ask for bolt on if you use a shop,or they will order a k&n ring that goes in your original airbox like they did with me haha)
