Aldon Automotive's View on Braking

Q: Will fitting drilled and grooved discs give me much better brakes?

A: As with horsepower, there's nothing like size to improve performance. Drilling and grooving will help with fade, making your brakes more efficient and last longer, but it won't necessarily improve braking force. The only way to do this is by increasing surface area with bigger discs and more pots in the calliper, allowing bigger pads.
Try every trick pad and they'll make things better, but unless you go bigger you won't really see massive gains. Also remember to balance the front to back braking levels.

Thought it may be interesting for some people.

It's a shame someone hadn't already wrote an article with this info, some time ago.

Oh wait... http://www.fiestaturbo.com/content.php?page=brakes they have! ;)

That is an excellent article but there is something missing from that guide that is often asked on this forum.

A guide to a rear disc conversion!

RS 2000 stub axel assembly, complete with discs, calipers, pads etc. RS 2000 handbrake cable.

Bolt the assembly on to each side of the beam, you need to cut a notch in the beam for the h/brake cable I belive.

Bleed and test for bias by stamping on the anchors mid corner at 15mph odd in a wet car park where you won't hit anything if you spin.

That's about it!

So you would need a donar RS 2000 then (not exactly the most common of cars!)

Can this conversion not be done with any other cars brake setup?

For those who have done it I would be interested to know how much it cost because I would like to do this myself.

You can't really have a sports car with drums on the back can you!! ;)
