Alternatives to RS2000 Front Brake Setup
Afternoon people
What alternatives are there to the RS2000 front brakes? The reason I'm looking at the RS2000 setup is because they can't be any bigger than 260mm due to 14" wheels.
I believe the MK5 Zetec S with 260mm brakes (I think there was a 240mm setup fitted to these too) fit, but require the hub carrier drilling out to 12mm - can anyone confirm this?
What about Mondeo 1.8/2.0 setup with 260mm discs - is this a setup that will go on? And if so, does the hub carrier need drilling out like some other setups do?
Also I've noticed the last MK Ford Scorpios (4 stud) have 260mm brakes. Again, anyone know anything about these?
Any other suggestions?
Thankingyoumuchly

Hmm... Was wondering about the Sierra, but I imagined they wouldn't fit as only the 4x4 Cosworth setup fits on the Fiesta, and the RWD setup doesn't... Not sure how much logic there is behind that thinking though
Didn't think about the Focus. Anyone know how they are for fitting?

Well the XR4x4 had 260mm discs so i dont know if they would be the same fitting as the cossie setup? And the Focus would probobly be the same as the ST170 setup which bolts straight on but needs the hubs drilling out.

goaty :130ps xr3i run 260mm brakes. I looked at them and there are loads on ebay cheap.
i just dont really see the need to go bigger, mine work fine as they are.
I've been looking out for 130 spec ones, but haven't had much luck... Nearly always seem to be 105PS brakes.
The fact is, I'm running solid 240s at the moment, so I might as well go for the biggest I can fit if I'm going through the whole hassle of upgrading.
Raymondo - I did think about the XR4x4 after I replied, so it's definitely something to look at... Although I'd imagine they need spacing like the 4x4 setup does if they do go on. Focus setup could well be a good contender though

Jonezy :why would you want anythin different tho,

They don't have to be
The problem is, RS2000 calipers seem to come up so rarely these days, or go for silly money... Usually because they include some manky old discs that the seller believes make them worth more, when all I'm going to do is replace them with some brand spanking new ones
The other problem I have, which is really starting to do my head in big time, is when I PM someone asking about an item they have for sale (in this case, RS2000 front calipers), and I get bugger-all response... So I'm at the point of having enough now, and will see if I can sort myself out with an alternative setup.
Never expected ERST calipers to work with RS2000 discs though... They're combined with ~240mm discs on the Escort, so I assume any MK4 (MK3 also?) Escort or MK2 (MK1 also?) Orion with vented discs will have the same calipers. If you're running these with 260mm discs, I'm assuming the hub carriers on the Fiesta have the holes positioned differently from the MK4 Escort for them to bolt straight up and work with 260mm discs?

Smo - Let me know you findings, i'll try and help out too.
I want to upgrade the fronts on my FRST so the biggest i can go is 260mm.
I've been also looking at the Hi-Spec kits (being the cheapest) but that will come to £450 odd.

Yeah definitely
I was quite set on getting RS2000 or 130 XR3i items for simplicity, but they just seem a mission to get hold of...
If the Escort setup as Jonezy has described above is as simple as it sounds, then I'll be looking at that I think.
Jonezy - Can you get some pics up of this setup? And how good is the contact of the pad to braking surface of the disc? i.e., is it perfect?

RS2000 Brakes
Have you tried ebay for the RS2000 setup?? I got front callipers, rear hubs, rear callipers(one brand new), brand new rear pads and handbrake cable for 50 quid
I'll probably give them an overhaul, maybe get them shot blasted too, but was a great bargain altogether!!

That's a bloody bargain!
And yep, it's been in my favourite searches under a number of different keyword combinations for months

ERST run 260mm. I have a few sets of calipers mate. I'm unsure they will work with the RS2000 front disks though tbh. ERST disks run a much larger offset than the RS2000 disks!
I have a few sets of ERST calipers though mate. PM me if you want a set, your welcome to them if you organise a courier. May even be able to sort you out with a good price on some Brembo front RS2000 Disks.

I actually thought ERSTs did run 260!! But I decided I'd have a quick look in the Haynes my dad had for his old Escort, and it seemed to suggest they were all 240mmish... Stupid thing
Is it possible that the holes on the Fiesta hub carrier could be positioned differently, and therefore allowing the calipers work with the RS2000 discs? I assume Jonezy has this setup working, so I'm guessing it must be something like that
Could well be interested in a pair of those calipers though, depending on what information I can find out, so cheers for the offer Steve
And cheers for the link Mr. Tony. I shall await to see if this one replies

hey heres yer pics
ok they use erst callipers - which bolt straight up no messin and fit perfectly over the holey bit.
the diskd are 1994 xr3i 130/115 disks, they are 260mm and fit straight on with these callipers no messin with no spacers required,
the offsets etc is mathematically perfect.(i think )
hope these help, anymore q's give us a shout, explained everyrthin as best i can and hope i answered all the q's in the posts above

Well I've hopefully got some RS2000 calipers on the way, but if not, I'll then be looking into this option
I just want the brakes sorted before going for more power (so I can scare bigger things )

Yeah, it's already on my list to do
I will, however, see how it goes with just calipers and a complete change of fluid, but the servo does need changing anyway.

they seem to work better than rs2000 xr3i setup even on the bigger mondeo's

Well this guy hasn't got back to me about the RS2000 ones that he's already given me a price on which I said yes to, so looks like I might be trying something else anyway!
What do you use on your Escort?
