Amp Blowing Fuses

Postby Percy! on Sat Mar 08, 2008 3:06 pm

Installed a sub last night and all was fine to later try it and find it had blown its fuse.

I tried putting another fuse in and it blew instantly.

Inline there is a 70amp fuse (do plan to get smaller) and the amp has a 20amp fuse.

It blew the new fuse without me needing to power it up.

So where should I start?

Look for any short circuits first mate - make sure there aren't any copper strands bridging where they shouldn't be, make sure any connections are insulated too. Sounds silly but also make sure that the Power and Remote 12v's are the correct way rounf. Thats where I'd start.

Hope this helps

I will admit the earth wasn't the best, didn't think that would cause this.

Either way I will start with that when I get a chance. :)

I checked all connections and it was fine, so tried another amp and that was also fine.

So I went for the easy solution, I pulled the broken amp off the box and attached my spare (and better amp)

Thanks for the suggestions :)
