Amp's on standard head unit?
Hiya. I know it probably isn't possible but worth a shot anyway!
Is it possible to wire up an amp (JBL GTO 19.5) to a ford stock head unit? Getting a MK5 and wanted to keep the standard headunit but need my amps. If it's not possible I don't care, I'll just go and get a better headunit, but just wondered if it was possible...?
Cheers,
Nick

I don't think the standard headunits in the MK5's have RCA outs.
I remember hearing about some device you can get to run a sub off your speaker wire.. or something weird/dodgy like that.
..a new head unit will always be better.

As I thought. I would have upgraded anyway just thought as an interim measure... I'll save for a better HU.
Cheers.

Yep it can be done without much hassle
what you need are speaker to RCA's converters which basically splice into the rear speaker wires (or front its up to you) and these then have phono plugs on them...
these are the ones to go for
http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/produc ... /3794.html
if you need some drop me a PM and ill sort something out for ya
they also have an earthing lead on them which tries its best to eliminate ground noise when using them...and in all honesty...these are the best ones to go for when doing everything on a budget...MUCH MUCH better than the crap Autoleads ones
The other option you have is the Audiocontrol LC6 for example...but its £300 or so but is an amazing bit of kit!

Ah ha, thats pretty good. I just am getting a cassette player in the new car but am upgrading that pretty soon - I was looking at the OEM units as they fit the dash nicely.
I'll PM ya when I decide what to do!
Cheers matey!

dont run your speaker outputs strait into the line youll blow it.
if your amps have high level inputs, you can wire from the headunit strait into these 2 channels.

JAmes2k :Will that Directed Speaker to RCA lead be ok For just subs?
And also were can i get a remote lead for turning the amps on?
I used an ignition switched feed from the 4 copper panel (2nd one I think).

JAmes2k :I've gotta 02 Vectra now so might have to do a bit of tinkering.....
Bassboy???
That will be OK for subs, as long as your amp can distinguish between bass frequencies.
It sounds really insane, but I prefer the look of standard headunits in the car, plus with the 6000 RDS unit I can do everything I need to with it, especially with that add on.

bassboy :if the car has an ariel on the roof then use the remote feed off that to switch the amps on....failing that use an ignition live...
but yes the rca's can then be used for any amp whatsoever
bassboy
Did you get my PM fella?
