I've never been so pleased to see my radiator! :D It's just come back from Pro Alloy with some of the most beautiful ally welding I've ever seen. They had to cut two little inspection hatches in the end tanks (one either end) to weld up the two damaged tubes in my radiotor. The hatches were then welded back in, and the radiator pressure tested. Check out the quality of this work:

They also welded new mounting tabs on the top face too. My previous ones were in the wrong position, so the radiator was held in place only by the hoses. They held it very securely, but if I pulled away using the clutch is such a way that it juddered, the radiator would be free to jump up and down a bit, which wasn't very nice. Now the tabs are in the right place it can be solidly mounted using the OE arrangement :)

So huge thanks to Wayne at Pro Alloy. First rate customer service, I don't think any more needs to be said about the quality of his work! It's been pressure tested and is good to go again. The loss of two tubes shouldn't leave me with any cooling difficulties. Just waiting for my gearbox cradle and I can stick the whole lot back together again! :D

j7aoc - Going away for the weekend in about 20 mins, back on Sunday evening. Will take the other lower arm off that night if I'm not too knackered, then stick the new ones on on Monday. Still don't have my gearbox cradle, so can't finish everything up till that arrives. If it's not here by Wednesday I'll have to go into panic mode as I need time to book in to sort the camber and tracking then put some miles on it all before Trax to make sure all is well. I'd guess I have about 4 hours of work to do before Trax :)

Tony - Having seen one or two people weld I can say the same thing :p  Would like to see someone Mig like that! :o It's a Radtec radiator, but I didn't fancy the slog of getting in touch with them and getting it delivered on time etc. Sent it to Pro Alloy late on Tuesday, they got it on Wednesday, welded it up...but hit a snag and just missed the post, so posted it out Thursday and I got it back today. You cannot fault them in any way :)

that makes me want to learn to tig weld, properly.

hmmmmmm, wonder where I can do a course?

Spiffing radiator heeman, and repaired ingeniously, I hadn't thought of doing that!

spose it loses you 5/10% cooling area though? can't that being much of a worry with that monstrosity!

j7aoc - Hope you didn't miss me

Faye - Know what you mean! I was tempted to ask them to knock me a radiator up, but I've totally customised mine and didn't have time, so just settled for a repair.

DaveZetec - There are 30-32 rows in my rad, so I'm only losing about 6% of the cooling, though the two sealed tubes still work as a heat soak with all the fins around them...it shouldn't be a problem though, no :)

Steve - What's the crack with these Escorts? :D

Black one has gone, silver one is still there, its a 1.6 LX or something, around 60k on it, theres no tax but may be an MOT.

Unfortunately its got 'slight' damage to n/s front corner (needs bumper and headlamp)

Let me know if your still interested in it and I'll find out how much it is and check condition of the tyres, brakes, suspension exhaust etc...

I'm looking at 300 quid with MOT and at least 6 months tax. If you think it'd be more, it's not worth looking any further. Thanks :)
