From what Iv heard its pretty pointless, but then Iv never experienced one so dont know.
All I know is they make your car sound like a shotty and cream off turbos.....
How does it work??

Re: Anti Lag. Good or Bad??
i think basically what anti lag does it retard the timing when the turbo is off boost, causing more pressure to build up in the manifold, which results in the power being more instant. this means theres alot more stress on the turbo and exhaust parts.
it does sound very nice though

Re: Anti Lag. Good or Bad??
I know one of it's main purposes is to keep to turbo spooling off throttle and during gearchanges
I believe it works along the lines something like this, When the throttle is closed the ignition timing is retarted as much as possible, At the same time air is allowed into the engine through a throttle by-pass valve. most of this mixture passes through the combustion chamber unburnt and into the exhaust manifold. Because the ignition is retareded so much it fires when the exhaust port is open, This causes combustion to occur in the exhaust manifold where most of the A/F mix is. This explosion keeps the turbine spinning aswell as giving the unmistakeable noise and flames
Unless you're goin to be driving like a nutter or racing in motorsport there aint much need for it otherwise!(although i'm sure that this could be argued by some)
Downside is that you its expensive(from what i've seen) the parts list includes a turbo with a Mar-m shaft, an air injector or a throttle body with bypass valve, an ecu which can be programmed to run anti-lag (cosworth in our case), Decent exhaust manifold and some other stuff i'm sure i've left out.

Re: Anti Lag. Good or Bad??
as has been said, keeps you turbo producing boost no matter what, as long as its turned on, costs alot but the noise and flames need to be seen & heard to be believed, shout as loud as you can.... Anti-lag's louder

That's how I thought it worked. But to answer the question I think it's pretty pointless on a road car. But You can hav e it on a switch though for if the need arises!
Those that can, do; and those that can't, talk about it.

Re: Anti Lag. Good or Bad??
most are on switches, turbo's normally max out at 900oC when in use, anti-lag takes that to nearer 2,000oC so thats why Maram 247 shafts are used because the standards 1's distort pretty quickly

In a rally car where even the smallest split second is needed it's worth every penny. On a road car no it's a bit pointless but it does get a lot of attention and is a great laugh. Mate has ALS on his ZT S1 Escort and it's an absolute riot
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience
