hi, i have a 1990 g reg xr2i and the previous owner had put a strip of thin blue tape down the side of the car, like a speed stripe bout 3" above the standard rubbing stripe, i decided to remove it.
on some bits not all beneath the stripe there is a kinda line where 2 layers of paintwork meet well where there is a line where either the previous owner has SCORED along the paintwork to make the line straight or somethin else
above where the line used to be on some bits the paint seems a layer higher than the stuff below the line, hmm im confused its only small and noticable when you look up close but is there any way of making it un noticable? ie. blending in the 2 layers of paint?
any ideas welcome

Maybe it was hiding a $hite paintjob which was not properly blown into the original paint!!! Try using loads of T cut, wont cure it properly but may make it look a tiny bit better.

The only way is to rub it down and give it a fresh coat of paint

Could you try rubbing compound? It might be a bit coarse though? Could be worth a shot... :???:

Its like a paste (you can buy it from Halfords) which has little bits in (like exfoliant facewashes! ) that rub up the paintwork.
I think its used for doing stuff like this but dont take my word on it...i never tried it myself!!! I would imagine it would do the job though...

Rubbing compound is good for blending paint, but BE CAREFULL! Its tough stuff and if the layer of paints thin it could remove too much paint, I know, it happened to me! I had spent ages fibreglassing and filling my esiting ariel hole, and after doin a luvly spray job on it, set to blending the paint in. After a harsh session with the rubbing compound it looked a lot better, but had also taken some of the paint off leaving bare metal  So I had to have the top 1/2 of the wing repsrayed!
