Anyone know much about alarms and fitting?

Postby dontpannic on Sun Jul 15, 2007 9:04 pm

Hi guys,

I am looking at alarms for the new fiesta and wondered if you guys can help me. I'm not looking for anything too fancy, but would like something that someone comes round to fit, which controls the central locking. I need it fairly cheaply installed (£150 - £200 installed) if thats possible!

Thanks in advance!!

Don't fancy doing it yourself? It's a lot cheaper and you can get it certificated too, as long as you follow the thatcam rules.

Otherwise I'd try the yellow pages. Fitting is the main expense and should be cheaper if it's local.

I would do it myself but its the fact its a fairly new car and I don't want to be cutting into central locking looms myself - rather let someone else do it who knows what he's doing!

Yellow pages is my next port of call!

Cheers

Okay. Just make sure it's sumebody reputable then. Maybe ask to see some work. I've heard of supposedly professionals doing dodgy stuff. Scotchlocks, honestly!

You have to go to a alarm fitter and pay them to check the wiring/installation, if it meets thatcham standard you get a certificate. But it costs £40 from what I remember.

Thanks guys - looks as though I'll be doing it myself. Local alarm fitters are £199! Is it easy to do - will I bugger up the central locking if it goes wrong?

You'll only be patching the wires into the loom (soldering's best!), so the original workings of the car shouldn't be affected, as long as all your joins are done well. Sheck out the guides section for one one soldering if you're not sure. It works pretty well.

Ok no worries, ive done loads of fiesta si, in fact VIX knows me i done her alarm. The central locking kit for yours with the ford bracket to install the motor to the latch properly in the door will cost £80 extra on top of the alarm, alarms start from £150 for a non cat1 alarm with remote locking, immobiliser, ultrasonics and wired to the door pin swithes and boot and a pin swich under the bonnet, comes which 2 remotes and a blue LED. A Cat1 alarm starts from £249 which is the same as the first but has 2 circuit immobiliser and battery backup siren. If you want the dogs dangleys of an alarm then you want the Clifford intelligaurd 950 Cat1 which has a tilt sensor, glass break sensor, daul zone prox sensor and anti hi-jack system for £499 fitted.
