Anyone lowered with 205 width wheels?

Postby happypaul on Tue Oct 23, 2007 11:46 pm

As title, has anyone lowered their Fiesta while having 205 width 16 inch alloys on?

Any problems encountered?

I plan to lower only 30mm but worried about any major scrubbage and cutting

WRONG SECTION!!!!! sorry i haven't said that for ages :bonkers:

Answer to the question is:

205 means the width of the tyre, and i would say if they are going on a car with the bodykit on then you will need to trim both metal and plastic arch, peoples choice is to fit either 195/40 up front and 195/45 rear this will allow the car to be lowered and prevent scrubbing at -30mm.

Sorry about the wrong section, was late haha

I've just fitted the wheels, had to space the fronts out 3mm, and over big bumps at speed something scrubs, not sure what as cant see much at moment.
This is with standard suspension.

Putting 195 tyres on 205 wheels would look daft wouldnt it? or when people stretch them do they go a few more sizes lower?

Cheers for any help. :)

It all depends on the width of the rim really, im presuming your running with a 6.5 or 7j width rim with a fairly good ofset to fit 205 tyres on the car..

This will all change when you lower it though.... The scrubbing normally occurs on the front wing where the bumper meets it. If your wanting to go super low you will have to cut this out carefuly so that the bumoer still hides the area.

The Fiesta would benefit for having a wider front foot print but its not easy... Im running 195 tyrs on the front and back would like to go wider but tyre options then become a problem as does rubbing.. You need to decide what you want the car to be used for...Road track fast road race etc

Not sure what width rin 6.5 or 7, they are compomotives that were made for the ford rally team, so these are from a wrc escort at some point :Q

Been enjoying the grip with the 205 tyres on it today, but the scrubbing on bumps just catches the RS kit/wing.
Which I don't fancy cutting away as it'll probably ruin it

So I can either leave as it is.. or fit 195 tyres and lower it.. hard choice, but tbh I doubt theres much difference in the grip between 195 and 205 tyres :-?

Orrr... Would having stiffer suspension reduce the risk of any scrubbing when lowered 30mm? eg Spax VSX kit, been told they are fairly stiff

Cheers

Stiffening the suspension will open a whole can of new worms. This is one of the biggest dritisiscms I have with people when they modify a car, the fact they think stiff equals good.

195/40/16 tyres is what you need and an ETof 35-40 with a width not exceeding 7J.

Fair enough mate :)

Will be looking into getting them size tyres for the wheels, not sure on the ET and width, but the fronts only needed 3mm spacer as the edge of the rim was abit close to the shock.

Also, if I fit these 195 tyres, and lower 30mm and anything scrubs on the arch, do people recommend to trim the archs down?
