Anyone used Audi 1.8T pistons in a 1800 zetec turbo?
I'm sure i read it somewhere before as the Audi Pistons are 81mm with a 20mm pin

someone in a ford magazine used them, it was a red xr2i IIRC.
They can be used and are stronger than the vaux pistons

i dint see the point really when its the rods and bolts that are the main week link and rod and piston packages are not that expensive these days

and why go build 1.8 when 2l has so much more power for a similar cost!

some people have a tight budget to work on, and for all the price of forged pistons and i/h beam rods has come down, its still and expensive for some people when they are not chasing huge numbers.
dave, there are certain race classes where there are rulles and regs on capacity, he might be aiming for a certain one, just a thought

i agree that if you are not after big bhp then you dont want to spend out on rods and pistons but if that was the case then a de-comp plate and a standard engine is the way to go and you can run upto 250hp with no probs .

i would never use a decomp, your opening the possibilty of HG failure times two due to increased sealing surfaces.

some people like myself cant afford pistons and rods and those that can will buy 2l ones with forged rods to get the cr required!
also look at how well heemans decomp plated 1.8 zetec runs......

Well i will be selling some of these 1.8T 20v Turbo pistons soon they are forged and can be made to fit the Zetec rods
I only want £150 for all 4 anyway to if someone offered me these or a £50 decompression plate i know what i would get

rather than a decomp, i would get the combustion chambers machined to lower the cr, or a thick copper HG rather than a decomp.
Thats just me however

Re: Anyone used Audi 1.8T pistons in a 1800 zetec turbo?
The Zetec pin is bigger than the S3 so the zetec rod needs to be machine to to fit a S3 small end bush.
With this modification it makes the rods fully floated pins so you can remove and refit the piston without heat or a press

Freak Power im always inspired by your work and 'thinking outside the box'. This seems like a great way of safley turboing a Zetec without the possible reliability issues. Do these pistons fit the bores ok?

The 1800 zetec bores are 80.6mm
The S3 pistons are 81mm
So not that far off

Re: Anyone used Audi 1.8T pistons in a 1800 zetec turbo?
Hi, this is quite an old post, but i just wanted to confirm,
I am now using 1.8 20v Turbo (AGU) pistons in an 1800 zetec engine (with under piston oil jets)
on a set of prime performance steel H beam rods with the little end rebushed for the 20mm audi floating pin.
the car drove to germany and round the nurberg ring and back again absolutely fine.
They work perfect, compression is a little low around about 8.5:1 with the standard 1.8mm ford composite head gasket, running about 12psi of boost, its making approx 220bhp (rolling road yet to be done), i may at a later date fit the 1mm MLS headgasket from the 1998 mk1 focus.
the pistons are actually 80.95 mm and the bore 81mm
also im running pugeot 106 gti valve springs shimmed +1mm inlet +2mm exhaust
Its a good solid medium budget build which at a later date can take a set of zetec 81mm forged pistons when funds available or if the Audi pistons break (but they are supposedly good for 350bhp)
not necesary but evidence
hope this information helps anyone searching this.

That con rod and piston set up is what iv just built in my zt engine so nice to know someone has used with good success. What started off as a budget build just whack in pistons and arp rod bolts now turned abit more into a 300-350 bhp build instead. Freak power what's the going rate for these pistons? I paid about £80 for my set If I remember rightly

Glad to see more people doing this now! I know I was really interested back when I first saw Freak Power mention this. Seeing this post come back up makes me want to do it again!
I may have asked this before (probably in this topic!) but do the pistons clear the under piston spray jets OK?

Re: Anyone used Audi 1.8T pistons in a 1800 zetec turbo?
Hi, im new to this forum...
I have a mk3 fiesta xr2i 16v (1.8 silvertop zetec)
I am planning to carry out a turbo conversion. My prime performance rods were delivered today- to fit 20v turbo pistons. Can anyone tell me what engine code pistons to get? And where to get them? The rods are for a 19mm pin.
And reading this thread so far- i gathered the pistons fit straight in the bore- no rebore needed?
Thanks in advance, Tom

AGU Pistons with dolomite sprint bushes machined into steel rods of your choice.
Boring the block may be needed, just check your piston to wall clearance.
Pistons are good for 400bhp in Audis.

Cheers, for the reply. I have a set of rods apparently made for these pistons- are the pins 19mm?
If so would it be a straight fit if i got a set of AGU pistons with gudgeon pins?
