arches

Postby slaney21 on Fri Sep 05, 2008 5:06 pm

hey guys

as you know i got my car lowered and put some 15"s on. Now thing is there is clearance on full lock with no rubbing but when i go over humps the front wheels scrape off the arches like a mofo. also to compliment the sound is a nice "sccchhink" from the exhaust. how would i go about doing this "arch rolling" business as i like the height of the car and dont want to change it

cheers :)

Was going to ask the same thing. Shouldn't rub on 15's unless your tyres are to big lol. How wide are the rims also?

Havn't got a clue why its rubbing then mate. Got the right offset ect so not a clue. I'v not heard of 15's rubbing before its usually 16's people seem to have a problem with.

depends on how low it is, mine used to rub aswell, and you can see how low it was, i hire out a kit to do it it mate, 100 quid for 2 weeks hire, you get the rolling tool, heat gun, sealer and instructions and diagrams. I may see bout placing an ad on here of people start hiring :P

What are they actually catching on? Mine caught on the corners of the front bumper a bit but its nothing to worry about really.

I'm guessing your suspension is too soft, or your tyres have big side walls for the size.

Must bodyshops will roll your arches for £25 each, so £100 for all 4.

ok just got back from my mates and we decided to do a tad bit of angle grinding to the parts of the arches which are catching. drove home and still no luck :( every dip or hole and the scrape is very bad. the guy i bought the suspension kit off said it was on either 30 or 35mm springs so do you think 25mm springs may help??? dont really know what elso to do. Would that arch rolling thing make any difference? :(

now that you have attacked the arches with a grinder, arch rolling cant help you any more, you need the entire arch in decent condition for it to work.

So your stuck mate, you really need to find out where its hitting first before you go any further.

its catching right on the outside of the tyre. il get some pics tomorrow of it but thats the only contact it has. the rest of the tyres are fine its just the outside on the fronts. My mates just as clueless as me as to how to resolve it.

just the outside bits inbetween the green lines is the affected area

o sorry lol :bonkers:

it appears to be where the front bumper joins the the body on the arch. when you feel the arch on the bodywork its right at the end where it meets the inner arch(the black plasticy bit)

ok hope this may help you know whats catching. the bits inbetween the green lines

You may need stiffer springs or the shockers are no good. I have the same size wheels and tires as you lowered 35 on cheapo gmax shocks and springs and mine only catches on full lock, no probs over bumps ect. Try pushing down on each corner of the car to assess the damping effect.

ok where would i be able to obtain bigger bumpstops?

also i think they are 35 or 30mm springs. would it be wiser to get 25mm to see if it makes a difference??

check to see if it has any first

did you use your old ones when you fitted the lowering kit ???

if it has they will probably be shorter than standard ones

get some standard fiesta bumpstops

didnt even know fiests had bumpstops???

from what im aware of matey he just took the whole standard suspension off and replaced it with a koni shocks and springs kit. nothing else was taken off. il have a look in a bit bud as im going back down there today to sort the exhaust out as its knocking in the centre somewhere against the fuel tank.

also going to a bodyshop today to see what they can do to the arches. hopefully they can do something :D

certianly do mate!!my new tyres are 205/40/16 on kumhos BUT if you look hard then you will be able to find 35 profile tyres but they are rare in smaller diameters and i warn you know they will be expensive!!lol still can understand why you are rubbin tho!! as like i said mine are 16's lowered by 80mm, when does it rub??isit just when you corner or just all the time when driving down the road?? do you have new shox?as the old shocks could be leaking so have dropped a bit!!??

the whole suspension kit only covered 200 miles before i bought em so were all pretty much new. It only scrapes when i go down dips to quick or hit potholes fast etc... mates cut some more of the arch out and its a little bit better now. Just going to have to live with a little scrape here and there. fitted a rear strut brace yesterday and got the front one to fit when my mates got the time.

i didnt think 205/40/16 would fit a 15" alloy :-?
