Are we a School chat room?
Kinda gettting fooked off with the continuous use of FT which to me is meant to be a car site providing information.
Now seems to be a site for chives to come on while at school or on easter holiday etc so they can chat breeze..

I've been on the site nearly a year now & i've learnt alot,
If there are people on the site who are just using it as a chatroom on there breaktimes at school i'm sure in time they'll get bored & move on, where as the people who are genuinly here for the cars will stay,
cheers,
carl

I would say I use it for car and general chat, but with that I am not at school.
I do think its good that you can come on here and ask about cars or relationship advice and get help with both and I think its one of the reasons its such a good board.

yeah but i can see that Off Topic and Random are soon going to overtake the General forum..
There are newbies that only come to use the 2 aformentioned forums... I cant see the point in that, I think they should all be Shot unless they've posted a few decent responses in general/technical etc.

Maybe those who use the other posting areas don't find they have anything car-ish to post in the general or tech probs, but whats to say that these people don't look in there and read the posts to see if they can contribute or if anything is familiar to them...

oh no! people using a forum to communicate?! whatever next?
just because it's a car site, doesn't mean every post has to be about cars. there wouldn't be "off topic" or "random distractions" or "music" sections otherwise would there?
avoid those forums and i'm sure you'll not find much 'chat' or whatever 'fooks you off'. it's just common sense i suggest you use some.

Off Topic - Serious non-car discussion - computers, films etc. Pointless posts will be removed.
Random Distractions - Jokes, random babbling and personal crisis counseling.
I think for the most part, it does run like that. However, I think there comes a point, when people come into the forums, sign up, and the first thing they do is put a "Look at me, Im going to be a post whore for a week, then you'll never see me again/ban me" post every week or so.
I've seen more newbies in the last couple of months than ever before, and only about 25% of em are actually asking serious questions aswell, the rest are just posting nonsense.

Forgive me for stepping out of line here, but, isnt FT.com the actual website, and the forum is simply a branch of it? If you try and stop people conversing they'll get pissed off and leave, but from what i can see, the old members, who are in "the clique" dont like the new members who are coming along. Everything changes and evolves, if the FT forum stayed how it was in 2002 or whatever we would all be living very sad lives. If you dont want to read s**t, dont look at it, thats simple enough, and if you do, keep it in the right place.
Probably get absolutely slated from everyone and their auntie for that, however, i believe in speaking my mind, so there ya go

agreed........some of the posts are a little irelevant and some people do only post when they are bored and do not contribute to the site, but then again.......how much more information can you put into it. Its all either already there or people 'In the know' will help out.
it seems to me that the 'old skool' people are just getting a bit tetchy because of the amount of people now on the board. It is here for fun and for knowledge.
I myself am no good with engines, this is why i do not look into 'technical problems' and i dont contribute, but i know a fair bit on styling, so i help out where i can.
But until people like me have managed to build their fiesta up, they know very little. Therefore it is difficult for them to contribute, but i will bet you that in about 2 years, when my car and few others cars have been built up and are sustained on this website, that this discussion will be going on again, but with a different 'old skool'.
Those that are saying that the posts have changed or that they find it boring and its all about women getting their funlumps out, need to look at the apparent 'old skool' posts. Everything is now the same as it always has been, just different topics or repeats. You really dont think that people such as Chum and Crash have only 'just' started asking women for pics do you??
Now im not really one to criticize, but this segregation of 'old skool' members and 'new' members cant really be helping can it?? People move on and grow out of things at different paces. And these parties that you are talking of may ot happen because those people have most likely left the site to get on with their lives, big deal. There will be other parties, such as when Tom likes to throw a party. Friends drift apart, and so do members.
Personally im sick of all the bickering and the segregation of the 'old skool' members, and their lack of interest and their own input to the boards.
Talking of newbies not participating in other forums, how about some of the 'old skool' that only pop in to make a comment or to make a topic to find something out themselves. Why dont they participate at all??? Surely if they participated then the board would continue to interest them??
This is no way directed at particular people, i am very grateful for everything that is posted and any information that people can offer, and i do try and offer help to anybody i can. But for christ's sake...........grow up.
sorry for the essay

woah that was a bit of a long post
Its not the fact that older members aren't accepting newer members, its that newer members seem to be less and less interested in well modiified cars and more interested in tacky mods and cheap tarts. Chum has always asked girls for pics, its been an on-going joke for years, but girls never used to give in and post pics of their funlumps for him
I'm not slating all new members because the majority are sound people, but a lot would be better off driving novas and hanging around in mcDonalds car parks every night...
Off Topic isn't just off topic discussion anymore, its full of s**t which could be kept to msn...

i felt like a long post
im in agreement that girls funlumps shouldnt be posted as this is a forum for many ages, and i am also in agreement that the off topic has many posts in it that should be either in 'random distractions' or not posted at all.
But then again i do still feel that if more of the 'old skool' contributed more, then those that are interested in tacky mod's will have the piss ripped out of them so much they will leave

Can't there be ONE thread started on this site without somehow including me in it?!
I don't care if you're an old member or new member reading this, I've never been part of this "clique" so....
Lads.... add me on MSN if you want a laugh!
Girls... add me on MSN if you want a "laugh"!

exact same thing happens on every forum i've ever used.
older members seem to think they're better and don't want the forum to expand. they complain that "things aren't the same as the good old days,", etc. newer members are scared away or intimidated by their attitudes.
result: a lot of new members are fine but you get a lot of idiots because they're the only ones that stay. plus you get all the ones that just post a few times and f**k off. and plenty of lurkers that never/rarely post
i probably could have worded that better

You see with me no longer having a fiesta I rarely visit the fiesta only pages much, but I find this forum to be the best online for me - my web browsing is pretty restricted down to a handful of webpages and ft is one of them, being my homepage for the page 3 years.
Everyone on here is pretty sound, I have never met anyone, almost met James but I was at work and didnt get in til 10 minutes after he'd gone (DOH! ). I have a lot of you on msn but the problem I find msn is I log on there and speak to my friends (home & uni) and i end up getting flustered by 4 windows poppin up let alone holding down 20 convos so I post some stuff others may seem as unnecessary on here (i would say that would be very rare though) but it saves me having a breakdown of msn stylee
To be fair, I never used to read the Off-Topic, then I sold my fiesta and it is now my main use forum, along with forsale, members gall and music

i done the same, its only now i look in off topic and others
There is some drabble in off topic but people are wanting to keep busy and it isn't everyday your car breaks down or blows up so you end up talking about non car stuff.
If pointless posts are removed then there will be no problem?

Agree with you to a certain extent, however, as much as most members hate the tack this new generation of modders love to stick on their cars, you have to remember were all here for one main reason only, we all share a passion for the mk3 fiesta and from what i can remember FT is the best site on the web for the info and knowledge gained on em

That's pretty much what I would have written mate, i sold my fiesta si in june but you'll always catch me browsing on the forum. I'm a car enthusiast and even though i have a saxo vts doesn't mean i don't like fiestas or fords anymore, and i always use the forum because i think the members are very friendly and knowledgeable on cars and other stuff. I will rarely post in technical problems about rs turbos as my opinion and knowledge is not worthy, yet if i see the odd post i can relate to and want to help then i'll reply.
I'm sure no one here really cares that not all members are hardcore ford and fiesta owners, but that's a good thing that the forum is so diverse.

havent owned a fiesta in years but i like to stay on here to see how the fiesta scene is progressing. new mods, new ideas, new people with new projects. who's to say this forum is getting better or worse and anyway there is a world offline. chavvy kides will come post some random s**t and leave they will soon get bored and move on, only those with a genuine interest in this scene will stay. Like me, i have been here since 1969
