are zvh conversions really worth doing???
i ask because of a few people saying there not. stick with cvh. why is this i thought zvh was better due to the zetec bottom end being newer stronger and the added bonus of extra cubic capacity

how much power do you want? how much do you want to spend?
best value for money is tuning the cvh, quite easy to get 200bhp
zvh is more envolved, more labour, more parts, more expenise but will ultimately give more power and perhaps more reliability

labour is as much of an issue because i will be building the engine myself. its just trying to source bits is either traveling all over or buting on ebay as a gamble not knowing what ur gettin.

I think either a CVH or a full Zetec Turbo conversion these days as turboing the zetec isn't the "black art" it once was, it's been done loads of times now and there's loads of parts readily available for this conversion.
The zvh is only a good idea if you want to keep the original looks under the bonnet but secretly have a few more cc, but bear in mind that the 1.6 CVH head will need modifying by a specialist to get the flow ideal for a 2.0 zetec block below it.
I personally would go the full zetec turbo route these days as a complete engine either CVH or Zetec will usually be more reliable than a hybrid of 2 different engines bolted together.

adam_frst :the 1.6 cvh is still looking strong, some people are getting 300 bhp plus out of theres?!
I agree, they are as Ford intended them to be and modern engine management and new ideas have breathed a new lease of life into the CVH, You can't argue with 300bhp from a 1.6 8v.
Thing is, is that Ford have made the zetec turbo their own too with the focus RS and you can buy CGI (carbon graphite impregnated) Focus RS blocks from Burton power now. I reckon a properly-built 2.0 zetec will last longer than a cvh equivalent running the same power and maintained at the same intervals, driven in the same manner etc.

Ive never liked the idea of zvh, yes they work yes they produce power, but i think money is best spent on a ZT.
ZVH = CVH head + Zetec bottom end!
so you just said... Could you put a zetec head on a zetec bottom end...
RS_seg :could you put a zetec head on a zvh bottom end??
