its fine if your 5ft tall, if your 6ft 1, your head and neck stop it getting scratched.

The 2.0 bolts will work fine in a 1.6 rods just don't forget to modifiy the rod cap and turn down the bolt were its smooth by about 3thou so its fits right.
The reason for this is the bolts arn't that good of a fit and will give you a wrong torque reading if not done

I find it best to but the bolt in a piller drill and with some 40grit sand paper run the paper over the smooth bit of the bolt until its the right size, trail fit every so often to make sure there is no interference, the rod cap will need teppering to the shape of the bolt head, you'll know what i mean when you have a close look at the bolt and the cap.

The ARP catalogue http://www.arp-bolts.com/media/pdf_files/RB_16-18.pdf shows part number 151-6003 (8mm) for the 1.6l and part number 151-6005 (9mm) for the 2.0l. I expect this means they are not interchangeable.

Regarding the 'thinning down' of the bolt shank, this might be best avoided, some ARP rod bolts are designed as an intererence fit in the rod, see their reasons in the above link.
