Hi,
Can someone who uses AVO coilovers or knows about them hlep me out.
Basically i bought the car with them fitted so dont know what fittings and bushes are used, i am asking as i have a knocking coming from the O/S rear strut when i hit bumps etc.
Now i dont think its the actual strut as they are under 8months old, so i am thinking its a bush up there.

Can someone tell me what bushes (top mount) or other fittings are used when fitting the rear avo dampers so i can know whats there without having to take it all apart??
many thanks

I've had AVO's fitted to my RS1800 for the last 3 years now with no problems (other than my fillings getting shaken out on our s**t roads!). I reckon it might be just the bolt that holds the top of the strut into its' turret in the boot, worth checking whether that's fastened correctly and also the bottom bolt that holds the strut to the rear trailing arm, obvious I know but still worth checking.

Other than that I would get the back end of the car off the ground (with the rear trailing arm hanging free) and try and move the offending side up and down and see if you can pin-point the offending part, bush, etc. could be an old bush broken down as nice hard new AVO'S will show any old original bushes up for what condition they are in.

Hope that helps mate.

I have AVO coilovers on my FRST, and i too occasionally get this knocking sound, i do belive this is a very common problem with these coil overs, and i think avo are aware of this prob, theres been a post on here before about "banging" coilovers. Im not sure why they do it, as 95% of the time they are fine however some times they will bang?

good to hear im not on my own, but i have checked all bolts and fastenings and cant find anything loose.

What did want to hear is there is a top bush, this is what i think is causing it but as i haven't taken the strut out yet i didn't know if there was a bush.

Priezti, coudl you tell me what type of bush it is so i can et a replcament. I think this would solve it for me.
thanks

mine have been noisy from day one. doesnt deter from the performance though. although after 4 odd years, one has now started to leak so i need to send them off for overhaulin' or i might just sling on some struts and springs instead and have a nice quiet ride for a change

mate, if your talking about the top strut bush on a avo coilover then its a poly bush and comes supplied and fitted to the strut from the maufacturer. best to ring them and ask them as they'll supply them to you quite happily im sure. i have to say though, i dought the bush is phucked. i think you'll find its the strut

like i said, mine knocked from day 1. how old they are is immaterial really. they are prone to being knockey but this doesnt mean there fooked out. you have to take into acount that they are made primarily for track use than road so road use will bring out the worst in them. Spax coilovers are no better. ive fitted spax coilovers to other makes of cars and they are exactly the same. i will say though, with both makes, the more miles you drive, the quiter they become
