Bagged a deal on eBay?

Postby Dazza on Tue Jun 09, 2009 11:19 pm

I read lately that tiller got the RS2k 4x4 and muz the RS1800 for buttons.

I found a 2.0 blacktop with gearbox, only done 66k so I put a bid in for it and was out bid in the final seconds due to my slow laptop. The final bid was £46 ( :o ) so I rang the seller for a quick plea to sell to me, here was the convo:

Me: Hi mate, I rang earlier about the engine. Its just sold but I missed placing my bid in the last seconds, its really pissed me off as I wanted it
Him: How much did it go for?
Me: £46
Him: Narr he's not having it for that

So someone like myself bid on this, thought they'd got a right deal to find the seller is a right 'conquering device' and refuses to sell. He only has 3 feedback (100%) so I guess neg feedback doesnt bother him. Now, what if the buyer paid straight away? He'd get a refund from the seller but would loose money due to paypal fees.

----------------------------------------

So, thats my near-deal from eBay today so thought id ask - What good deals have you guys and girls got from eBay?

Bah thats well annoying.

That engine was opposite ennd of country to me, so I even got the diamensions of the engine and a courier cost. After the above convo he was asking me to 'Make him an offer' I was about to say £50 (lol) until he eventually said he'd take £100 - Still very cheap, but not when it'll cost me £50 in courier costs.

I did have a very good deal on here a few years back, with jimmyyesh :D

Oh I agree, I should have made that clearer - But considering I dont plan on buying an engine for a few months its not cheap enough to hurry my plans.

When I was new to ebay (had bought a few things and was at 100%) I put a bid on some wheels and tyres and won them for something like £40. They guy said nothing in the advert about collection deadlines etc so I e-mailed him and said I was away the next day but would pick them up in 2 days. I ended up running late so I called him in the afternoon of the day I was due to pick them up and he said he'd sold them becuase he couldn't 'wait for me'.
As I say, I was fairly new to ebay at the time and didn't really know any better but he blatently didn't get what he wanted for them and was making excuses. W@nker.

Agreed!
Also, why do people insist on selling things out of Ebay while its in the Auction or after its finished an Auction! Clearly some people do not understand the concept of an Auction!
If I won that engine and paid for it with paypal (Which I do immediatly!) I would consider the item to be mine, to be posted as soon as possible to me and be in the condition that was described! I get so fudgekin pissed off when people dont follow the rules and understand what an Auction is. The seller of that engine sounds like a tool!

I recently bought a part for my BMW and used the 'make best offer' facility. The buyer accepted my offer but hasn't sent me my item still  . He knows the item is sold because he accepted my fudgekin offer so why cant the c**t shove it in a box and post the fudgekin thing! Im trying to get my money back through paypal now. fudgekin tosser.

so you miss the item on ebay, ring him up and try to get him to sell it to you instead of the highest bidder and then call him a 'conquering device' cos he wouldnt sell it at that price anyways...

how would you feel if you were the highest bidder and someone did that, then im sure you would be moaning about people doing that!

ebay is an auction, if you dont win an item at an auction and there is no reserve you can say sorry i forgot to raise my hand can i offer you an extra £ on top of the bid so same applies for ebay.....

as for selling outside of ebay, if someone offers the expected price for it then why not sell outside of ebay, saves the final value fees and the possibility of being messed around by an idiot who then decides he doesnt want it, but only if its well before the end of the item not after or at last min.

Whoa where did that come from? Easy now

Yeah I tried to get the sale over the 'winner' but Id spoke on the phone to the guy a few hours earlier, his story didnt make sense (Said it was his dads mondeo that be stripped, then told me it was his uncles) - The whole thing reaked of a car scrapyard, and IMO I was tottall convinced he was shill bidding on the item to bump its price.

The auction has a picture and the description simply said 'Mondeo engine, ring XXXX for info' - I thought this would put people off bidding due to the effort involved in picking up the phone.

Turns out, the 'winner' was/is a blag account he's using because within hours they had both left each other positive feedback, plus its not the first item the member had 'bought' from him.

that is one of the biggest probs with ebay nowadays is people deciding not to sell or sell to someone after the auction ends.

its no different to a proper auction so why should people think they can go and outbid the winner after it ends.

popper gets on my nerves, think how you would feel if it were done to you!

Yeah I understand your views, but as I said (or maybe I didnt) I didnt think it was a 'real bidder' bidding against me. I mean, no item description, no one else had rang him about it - Who would buy it just by a picture?

You must admit, given the above ^ you too would come to the same conclusion

ive bid on things with a description of just simple what it is before now and im sure quite few other people have, just cos of that doesnt mean that it was defo a false bidder.

but yeah do see where you are comming from, only an idiot doesnt take couple of mins to do a proper or small description.

Sometimes you can get a good deal on items with no/wrong/little information - I guess I couldnt have known at the time it was definetly a false bidder so I assumed it was - Just happened my suspicion was right. Oh and dont get me wrong xrsi, I use eBay 'correctly' and thats the first time Iv rang up after an auction to try and 'blag' it my way.

Anyhoo, thought you would have put a huge list up because unless Im mistaking you for jayrs, you get LOADS of ebay bargains!

got the black top that i converted to turbo for £50 as it was in 2 halfs and from 2 diff people
got a full XR/RS kit for think bout £40 and a 16v performance exhaust for bout £5.

had fair few over the years i have been on ebay but also works the other way sold things on there for loads less than they were worth cos there was no interest so just luck of the draw....
