Re: belgian xr2i 1.8 16v (17/10/10)enginebay rebuild

Postby dj_yd on Sun Oct 17, 2010 9:55 pm

this week i prepaired the enginebay for the 2.0 zetec to go in
and i modified the plate that sits between the engine and the gearbox, because of the starter location in the mondeo at the rear

the original plate and the little peace that needs welding on the plate
Image

welded and painted
Image
Image

than i could connect the gearbox and the engine(i'm using a old camcover for the instalation)
Image
Image

on it's way to his new home
Image

and the engine is in , but no pictures of it yet

i derusted my GAZ coilovers, and sprayed them, they are only 1 year old, but they where verry rusted , i blame it al on the roadsalt in the past cold winter
Image

and i pollished the front struttops, i'm not sure i'll keep it this way , but it will do for now

hopefully i can start the 2.0l this weekend

last week i'v been bussy
the front susspension back in GAZ shocks and fiesta st brakes
Image

and the 2.0l in
Image
Image

i cleaned the front angine mount and painted it
Image

and al build up
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
i need to clean it , i see dust in the pics :D

than came the big moment
first remove the fuse from te feulpump and the sparkplugs, and crank it over a few times

sparkplugs and feulpumpfuse back in
ok here we go
i turn the key and .... hu hu hu hu..... hu hu hu hu
like i was thinking a flat battery
got my parents focus and conected the jumperleads and tried again

it started the first time
and than switched it of again, i'm running piper cams and i have to run them in at +- 2500rpm for 20min, i couldn't do this as i had a cooling fluid leak
the next day i fixt the leak and charged the battery and started it again
20min at 2500 for the cams to bed in
than switched it of again and let it cooldown for a night

next day i started it again , to see what the idle whould do
it staled emediatly

the reason was that i dismantled the throtlebody and i had tho adjust the butterfly a bit , now it idle's at 1000rpm and 900rpm

i'v done the first miles and it runs verry wel , i'v not driven it hard just taking it easy and run it in for a few 1000miles

i'm happy that it does what its supposed to do :D knowing i did it al by myself and i'm just a elektrician and never had a mecaniks training.
i'm verry pleased :D

the correct peace for a mk3,5 fillerflap
Image

where it should be

the last days i'v been bussy :D
i preped it all ready for paint
i made myself a "paintbooth" with some plastic and 2 filters , 1 drawing air out , the other one blowing fresh air in
Image
Image
in the back you see a clean filter
and then soe paint and clear
Image
Image
the strange lines you see is the plastic reflecting
and the filter did his job
Image
Image
Image
Image
the wheelarches from the bodykit
Image
the boothlid
Image
and the enginebay back in frozen white
Image
Image
there is a little bit of dust here and there , all in the clearcoat, so i can pollish it out

the bumpers , spoiler and the middle section from the bodykit are next
