Best sports suspension kit for an Si?

Postby James_Si on Sun Mar 20, 2005 11:44 pm

I'm replacing my suspension for my Si (dampers and springs).

Just wanted to know what sports suspension kit is best suited, i.e what do other people have on their Si 's?

I need to lower the car, but no more than 40mm.

Also, me being naive :-? , what are bushes and would i need to replace them?

At the moment i'm thinking G-Max, but not sure on the quality.

SPAX

Postby Si16_valve on Mon Mar 21, 2005 10:00 pm

Got a spax vsx kit on my Si m8. burton power, 250 quid, absolute bargain and theyve made a hell of a difference. Spax dampers are quite firm and arent nice on bumpy roads but they make up for it in the bends.

Cheers, I think it'll be between the Spax VSX and the G MAX Supersport.

What are the drops? Are they both 35mm?

Also i'd need a strut brace, what's the best for the Fiesta?

I am using KYB on my SI, I would recommend them, not so many write ups as not many people have heard of them, due to that they are cheap to buy while they try and get a name for themselves.

The Spax VSX i saw on demon tweaks are non-adjustable but they're selling them for £299.

Did you buy the kit with springs and dampers?

For that you should get springs and dampers

ive had a full gmax kit and now have a full spax kit. THe spax kit is so much better handling on smooth roads but on the bumps its a bit of a c**t and you feel every tiny little bump. The gmax was a good compromise between handling and comfort

I'm really tempted by the Spax kit for the excellent handling, but not sure i would get used to the rock solid ride. :oooh:

The G MAX kit is guaranteed for a year more (3), plus it gives a lower drop. And hopefully it'll improve road handling as well. I don't want to take a mini roundabout too fast again and end up going straight foward. :o

Is it simple to fit yourself? Also would i need to get the wheels re-aligned?

you're need to get the tracking done yes.

i've got the spax kit and its wicked. handles very well for sayin its only a fiesta  the ride of firm, but you get used to it. makes the car shake like no other, but if you want it to handle well then you've got to get used to it.

:) £270 for mine, and i didnt fit them - cuz im lazy :P

How much did it cost to get the kit fitted and tracked?

The quality of G-Max is dreadful

I can confirm this by haing had one of there kits on for a couple off weeks and the welds broke on the rear suspension cup sending the back of my car to the ground

Very fookin dangerous :x

Now got Spax and the quality is spot on

Cheers for that. I'm gonna get a Spax VSX for the quality.

One other thing; will the front and back sit the same hight?

Only saying this because i know the Si is front heavy. Plus i may stick a 2.0 L in, and that would be even more weight. So would adjustable ride height be preferrable to get the car even?

Thanks, i'll either go for a Spax VSX, or take a look at adjustable ride height suspension.

One more thing, i know it's been on here hundreds of times but...

15's are the best for the fiesta, performance wise?

16's look better but don't you loose performance and get lots of scrubbage?

How easy is it to modify the arch, can it be done myself?
