This exact question has been asked before (was it you that asked first time Jungle??). Headwork and a stronger bottom end are needed really. With a custom ground cam, Power Engineering have got a 2i 8v to 132.
Spec included:
Head work (port, polish, oversize valves, bronze guides)
Custom cam
FRST crank
Raised compression with Mahle pistons to around 10:1 ish (will run 95 RON with no probs I think)
FSE boost valve (although the benefit it provides is debatable )
K&N
Straight through zorst

Oh er i think it would probably be cheaper to let my mate drop a re-condtioned Turbo Lump in or maybe buy a whole new FRST.
Thing is im not looking for SERIOUS power, just a fairly rapid car @ around 120BHP.
A mechanic i know has offered to POrT and POilSh the HEaD (as Chum said ), and add a fast road cam to suit. Thing is as standard the car is quick as fook of the line in 1st and 2nd, 3rd and 4th are just OK but not really that quick. Any XR 2i owners know what i mean???
I have no problems taking alot cars of the line in fact, its just anthing after 2nd gear which needs a bit of pep.
What does our pro's think?

a chip will sort that flat-spot. just make sure its the LAST thing in your mod list after you have carried out all the mods u wish so it can be set-up just right taking into account your mods.

Tell you what mate, give me your engine and I'll get serious bhp from it 4 peanuts. I had a 1.6cvh on carbs, exhaust and std cam with head work I did, ran 140hp with 135lb/ft torque. I can sort you the engine you just have to get the chip. It will use all the std stuff just knock up some better manifolds/exhaust and give it a good gas flow, stick in a cam and you will be laughin! mail me at mark_rst@hotmail.com if you are seriously interested.

As the name suggests yes I do! I can hook you up with a modified RST engine pretty much straight away as I have one in the mincer at the moment (1600 about 200hp), or I can strap on a zetec bottom end instead (1800 more than 230-250hp), or if you can hack the pace and wait a bit I can get you a fully fledged zetec turbo that will run on erst managment (very easy to install). Depends which way you want to go really. All you would have to supply yourself is an rst gearbox, if you wanted one, and an erst engine loom, or again I can get hold of these at extra cost. Simple really. I can bring the engine down to you aswell at the cost of basically nothing as I have a "mean as they get" 950cc nova saloon that costs £6 lancaster to south birmingham in petrol! (economy is the way to travel, cossie is the way to race!)

Jungle - thanks, it is a good looking car when the photos taken at a clever angle When I say it feels like I am hurting it I am just talking about the roar it makes at high revs.
turbo man - how much are we looking at for a frst conversion all in?

Chumkila: 230-250bhp just by adding a 1800 zetec bottom end
Yeah I wish!
Or if you look the original offer was for a 200hp 1600cvh so the increase is with a ztec bottom end put on increasing capacity and strength resulting in an increase of about 30-50hp depending on final setup.
