Better Brakes for my fiesta mk4. ('98 1,25 zetec)

Postby recogniseman on Mon Feb 05, 2007 8:43 pm

Hello All! I am looking for an easy and cost effective way to improve braking on my little feza. I would like to fit 278mm discs and was wondering if I could use Mondeo parts or something simillar. Any help or advice gladly appreciated.

Assuming that the MK4 is the same as the MK5/Puma...

I know these are abit bigger than what you want but its just a few suggestions:

Mondeo V6 Calipers and Discs go pretty much stright on. Slight modding required (Boring out the hole on the hub from 10mm to 12mm)

Or for if you want to go abit bigger Focus ST170 300mm Discs with Mondeo V6 Calipers

I don't know of any 278mm upgrades unfortunatly but I'm sure its possible

This is what you want my friend! A nice set of ST170 300mm front brakes like mine :bonkers: You need 16" rims to fit them but for the price you can't beat 'em! :Q All standard Ford parts so easy to get replacements for anything should you need it.

Plus it's not exactly a taxing task to drill the caliper-mounting holes on the hub-carrier out from 10mm to 12mm

ST170 Calipers are fine mate, Unless the mk4 has different hub-carriers than the mk3.5, anyone know if this is the case :-?

Sorry, Ignor what I said... The ST170 ones are fine. When I baught the bits for my 300mm I was told that only the mondeo/jag ones would fit. Just done abit of research and turns out was a load of balls.

As for prices.. Ford wanted alot when I enquired about the calipers. Over 200 for the pair. I went to an Andrew Page type place (smaller private firm in Preston) and paid about 160 for brand new ones.

Best thing to do in my opinion is to go to a scrap yard and get everyhing as you can get the bolts and carriers too ( when you buy calipers new they dont come with them...adding to costs down the line)

I got my discs from ebay.. Brand new Drilled and Grooved for about £90

Alternativly Pumaspeed/build do complete kits
