hi guys can any one help me find out the BHP of a cross flow engine 1600? just want to no wot kinda power to b expecting would like to c over 120bhp wen the carbs r set up,had a re-bore,lightend flywheel and been polished n ported................am i on the ryt lines.....

They were about 95 as standard straight from the factory engines, but it is possible to tune them well. I would think 120 would be easily acheived with port/polish, cam and twin webbers. (of course it will need a good exhaust, the standard ford Mk1 XR2 one was s**t!)

Ive got one I have been saving up for parts for. I reckon that 170 Bhp is possible with the right work

wow! 170!! that'll b wicked!! yer its goin in a mk3 so a custom exhaust is on the way,cam, flywheel, webbers, an a re bore to 1660, some 1 told me they had a 1600 cross flow bored to 1720?? duno if thats possable tho, thanx :)

i dunno about an overbored 1600 but there was a 1700 pre x-flow.

did the 1700 come in the cortina's or escorts? (RWD) [ERRR] i hav a "711"engine at home but they wont fit into a FWD car [ERRR] theres nowhere to bolt the top engine mount,

it wouldnt have been in the escorts and i dont think it was in the cortinas either.

ok then turns out it was in mk1 and 2 cortinas, prefects,anglias,classics and corsairs

:aviator: thort it was yer its a pitty they wont fit in to the fiestas :( but as long as i hav over 120bhp and lots of engine chrome n (insert ghey rap term) (insert ghey rap term) i'll b happy :devil:

i bet they would you just have to make up some mounts for it. and then theres the whole 'sourcing the engine' problem.

na theres no bolt holes in the back or side of the block so it would b more trouble than its worth, just fixd my jeep!!!! at last!!!
