It will vary from wheel to wheel. 330mm will clear just fine. If you feel the need for such big stoppers I'm assuming you have some grunt to play with? In which case I wouldn't be fitting 17's

Well a good friend of mine is circa 400bhp on his home built Zetec Turbo and running on 15's with 4x4 Cossie brakes. Although he does have some Focus RS Brembo's but won't be fitting them if he can't get them under the 15's

You didn't say you were doing an Escort

Get the 17's on and see what you are like for clearance. I run Focus ST170 brakes on my own 256bhp track car S2 and they have so far stood up to everything I've chucked at them. Would think 330mm would be more than ample

330 or something around that was what i was hoping, whats the best hub to use on an escort? is the s1/ s2 thicker than a 1.1 hub as ive picked up a pretty mint 1.1 shell with 47,000 miles on the clock to turbo, its an rs1600i rep and am thinking id want to change hubs if they are different? cheers
