Bike engine kart project began
engine is a gsxr 750 carb'd model from a 1984 gsxr 750, not quite as powerful as the modern day 750's but should be plenty quick enough to push a little go kart along
the kart is a gearbox racing kart, with front and rear hydraulic disc brakes :top:
this is how it looked when it was collected
everything stripped off bar the rear axle as its seized in place :wall:
chassis on axle stands ready to be cut and extended
we decided to extend it 500mm as that was the smallest distance we could get to allow the engine and exhaust to fit on the chassis twith the seat in position!
cut 3 lengths of tubing the same as the rest of the chassis, and slid them over the 3 bushes we made to make extending and keeping the kart inline as easy as possible. need another 3 bushes to continue anyway, no pics of those as yet, will sort sum out
seat rested in position
engine and seat rested in position
engine from behind with carb's on
got a bit carried away with the grinder later on and decided to just cut the rear drive shaft into a fiew pieces and remove it that way, got a spare anyway :top:
will be making some more progress at the weekend

those brakes are hench, heeman no overkill there most of the gearbox 125cc have front discs. Mine is a 125 but not gearbox and the rear brake is sufficient and thats with 27bhp, anyhting more you need some decent stoppers. its all about drilled and grooved and vented!!
looks like a fantastic project keep us update mate!

That's going to be wicked
As above, make sure you keep this up-to-date!
Slightly off topic, but do any of you karting people know where I can get some second-hand odds and ends dirt cheap for a little project I want to start on again? Things like axles, steering components, clutches etc?

also get yourself to some of the kart shows, theres one in telford xmas time (sorry a bit far off) and others dotted around the calendar, some 2nd hand cheap stuff, ideal for axles, bearings etc.
we bought some wheel bearings and stub axles for about a fiver each (some of the stuff is about 20 quid) and these were used once by a race team who were upgrading their parts!
