Black 3dr Cosworth - Engine in & underside restored - done
Re: Sierra 3dr Cosworth - 2010 Work.....
Brammer :Ad i have just seen that in your thread and i was intrigued, i have seen another custom setup that requires the battery to be reloated to the boot.
how many fittings into the engine is there?? i have seen the one that Paul has made by Philloy that goes to the front 2 corners of the rocker, the rear, and the normal exhaust and inlet side of the block.
Is this an AH item and what sort of money are they making these for??
Powdercoating update i pick the bits up tomorrow so by Saturday evening i hope most of the engine bay will be built back up - the plan is to get it on the road for the 1st March - can't wait
£225 mate this IS the best breather to use and is neat so no breather in the way on the right, top pipe is atmosphere , then side one to top of sump, one to the exh block , the brether fits in the inlet side where kidney box was.. no rocker breather is required wrc cars ran this... he's selling loads sold 20 in 1 month!
If you want one i can get you the details as its not AH direct thats doing it its the bosses right hand man, hence there cheaper as these are normally over £300!

Cheers fella,
The finsih on the inlet is like polished, strange really as he has managed to get the finsih flat making it look un powdercoated and polished.
The painter maybe good at what he does but my god i don't think i have ever met a guy so far up his own arse in my life, normally us Northern folk are chilled out types but this guy was off it, going on about how much money he makes selling paint he even got the paying in slip out of his wallet to show me, i felt like saying where's your cockney accent gone (no offence london people) i think if i get more done by him i'll secretly film him

Re: Sierra 3dr Cosworth - 2010 Work.....
Going underneathe when they get the RS1600i off the ramp thats been there for nearly a year
Will be pretty simple really floor stone guarded and painted black - rear beam, fuel pump carrier, fuel tank and other brackets done in the same silver as above. The prop done black, the gearbox cleaned with a wire brush on drill, the anti roll bars done in standard red.
Anyway all has stopped for the minute as i have ordered the wrong size fuel hose, it's 8mm not 6mm ordered so should be hear towards the middle of week.

Re: Sierra 3dr Cosworth - 2010 Work.....
All back together now just needs a wipe over and some better pics outside
the front bumper has gone through some more modifying, the air dams have been opened up 3" extra either side and plastic welded back in to allow the complete intercooler to get air flow - this should be finished over the next couple of days with the new splitter fitted.
I'm glad the car is done early this year to fix teething issues if any arise - it's booked in at MSD for the middle of March

All back together but the friggin thing won't start, similar symptoms as 2009 when the baby board failed so the ECU is back at MSD for a check (fingers crossed thats the issue so i can get it running )

Re: Sierra 3dr Cosworth - 2010 Work.....
Nowt wrong with the ECU- coming back this week so it's coming apart and refitting everything and double checking
Update -
Bought a new set of mirrors - need to decide whether to mod a standard set of mirror bases or buy a set of carbon ones from Carbon delight
Front bumpers back from the bodyshop and is perfect

Re: Sierra 3dr Cosworth - 2010 Work.....
Cars back together and ready for the show season
The starting issues turned out to be something simple -
The symptoms were simple it was massively over fueling causing fuel to pour out of the tail pipe - it was trying to fire on pot 1&4 but 2&3 were just dead, after replacing most of the engine sensors my Tuner came 100 miles to get the thing going, they brought 3 ECU's one being a P8 that would operate past faulty sensors a L8 and a L6 all three failed to start it, after replacing 2 new sets of plugs and the car showing no faults on the laptop we were stood there scratching our heads. Next was to whip the injectors out but James pulled the vacuum pipe off the regulator fuel pressure at 3bar poured out.
I'd never heard of this issue with a weber reg before nor had he but that was the issue, the pump issuing 3 bar of fuel into the rail through the reg and directly back into the ports completely flooding the engine, in fact lucky it didn't hydraulic the motor.
After a flush with 25L of cheap oil the engine was clear and new stuff added, engine fires and runs sweet as a nut.
Fuel backed up to the throttle
After removing the boost hose (£1.19 per litre on the garage floor )
Inlet removed (how much fuel)
Cleaned the inside of the head though - nicely ported
Now it's all running i thought i'd treat myself to a set of verniers from Graham Hathoway Motorsport also a 325mm brake set up, Comprising AP 4 pot callipers and drilled and grooved Focus RS discs this setup has to be used due to the wheels
As i'm into detail i picked these up for a bargain price, Retro Graham Goode Racing gauges which had to have some TLC but lovely now [clap]
With the car running it's able to leave the garage - Next job is to give my Poorboy's a session but this is how it stands
And a small video from 2009
Got the verniers fitted
Also bought another brake set up - now i have 2x 325mm set's - AP and BREMBO so which ever fits better will go on and the other sold.
Collected one of the mirror bases to test on the car to see where the mirror should be placed - their was a little more work than i anticipated as i wanted the lines remaining around the edge to keep the factory look, to much annoyance to my body guy They are solid enough anyway with all the metal, filler and plastic weld.
Engine set up
The car was back at MSD on Thursday for it's summer checks - all went well, the only issue was the car wouldn't go over 30psi so a quick update to a -34 actuator soon saw the car slingshot to 35psi to max out the Siemens 55Ib injectors i knew i should have gone 83Ib but christ..........
Tested it on full power today and i have to say it leave's my last spec standing, what power it is now i wouldn't like to say but the difference is that noticeable it's like driving a different car.
Traction on the rear is fine, i fitted the rear strut brace and since then the rear kicks slightly sideways, which goes to show that before without and the car staying straight how much pressure the shell was under
All i can say is hands up to those who hold onto high power RWD as it tiers me out driving it
The brakes are pretty much shot, the rear fish tails under hard braking and the amount of dust coming off the fronts onto the wheels shows the pads will be gone in no time at all.
I've noticed that the car will rev happier all the way to 7k as before it felt like it was tailing off well before - 5th gear is interesting, very laggy but when it comes on hard boost at 10-12psi (think this is due to -34) the speed it hit's 35 is no time at all and power's right through, god only knows what it would get to as the private strip we use is too short to allow the std brakes to stop the thing.

I can't quite understand your wording here Chris, what was the problem in the end? Was the fuel pressure regulator failing to keep the fuel the right side of the diaphragm, and then sending all the pressurised fuel straight up into the inlet manifold through the pressure signal hose??
It looks lovely, and must be a bloody animal on the road! I remember a couple of particularly special drives in my Fiesta. Fantastic roads with little traffic on hot summer's days, and I was soaked in sweat by the end The nice gentle burble home is a pleasant thing after such a caning

Right update time again - these bloody wheels again, it's a good job they are pretty or i would have scrapped them
Yes more problems, the bloody brakes wouldn't go behind them due to the split rim studs touching even with 5mm spacers, i could have gone further but the width & ET of the wheels is too much to start with so 5mm was the absolute limit.
Shame they had to be removed
