Bleed valves(again!!)

Ok, first I am sorry if I am being obviously thick here but what is the deal with bleed valves?

I understand the basic principle of how they allow more boost but would the overboost protection not just cut in all the time? Surely they must be fitted with a chip as well? If not, where exactly do they go cos they must bleed off pressure before the boost sensor. where is this?

No matter where you put them on a FRST.. the boost protection ALWAYS kicks in.. it is impossble to bypass unless chipped
