Hi, was wondering if someone can explain how they work and if they are worth it...

you will need to chip your car.

The bleed valve just bleeds off any excess boost pressure fooling the Amal valve which tells the ECU that everything is fine.

Ok ok ok! When I did the conversion on my car the engine I brought came with one as standard. Now I'd really like to get rid of it! The thing is can I just remove it? I'm getting the car chipped in a few weeks but really want to remove it in the time being.

Anyone confirm it's ok to do this?

I presume your car is boosting at more than 10psi, if you remove the bleed valve it will cause the over boost protection to stop your car boosting over 10psi. I would leave it in and get it removed when you get your car chipped.

Are you replacing the bleedvalve with an uprated actuator ?

I have a bleedvalve fitted with a Superchip stage1. Bleedvalves are ok, as long as you leave them alone and make sure they are clean and not covered in cr@p!!
Problems only happen when people start playing with them and the next thing you get is 20+psi and BANG!!!!!

Ummm I'm not running above standard as my cars over boost kicks in at 10PSI still. The car has been tuned already with the bleed valve.

Guess I'll leave it there until I get her chipped and take it from there.

I'm going to take it to PE and get them to chip it once the cossie (2WD) cooler has been fitted.

New Actulator? Do you think PE will fit it when the chip it?

While we're on the engine subject what air filter you running? I've got a K&N cone filter which sounds the bollox but I want to check that it's the best way of doing it. After all, it does get very very hot in there.

Gilly,
You are running more than std, as the FRST boosts at 7psi std. If the over boost protection is coming on then you are running more boost, but on a std chip
The sooner you get your car chipped the better, so the fuelling etc... can be set up properly.

As for the actuator, you get -32 actuators for the FRST which can obviously be changed to increase the boost. If you ask PE to get rid of the bleedvalve and fit an actuator they should do it, but you will need a chip. The bleedvalve is a cheaper way than a new actuator.

I am running a K&N57i to, if you like it, you keep it
The new 57i will have some type of heat shield, so that would be worth trying.
