Bodywork Problems
12 posts • Page 1 of 1
I have a Frst in moondust silver. There are a couple of pieces of bodywork needing sorted and I would like some opinions on the matter.
Some ******** attempted to break in to the car by bending the drivers side door back from the top!Resulting in the need for a new door. Also there is rust below the fuel filler cap. In both cases the local bodyshop reckon I need both sides of the car sprayed. As all the paint on the car is original I am reluctant to let them near it as I have never yet seen a respray on a FRST done well!
Any suggestions?

If it is a reputable bodyshop they should be OK.
The door like you say will need replacing so the paint job should look top quality eg. the paint will not need blending into the original.
For the filler cap rust there is only one solution:
Complete replacement back wing, they are about 180 quid for a ford replacement (dont go for an aftermarket jobbie)
Then theres paint materials and a hell of a lot of labour!!! Probably looking around the 500 quid mark!
They would then have to blow the paint into the top recess to finish this off.
The cheaper way is to either rub down the rust and fill or have a section of wing welded in, again this will only deter the problem short term
good luck,
We have all got gunna get the same problem!!!

bcoz you're having a new door you'll have to have the door painted and the paint blended into the front wing and the rear quarter otherwise the door will loook a different shade. If you get a new rear quarter to get rid of the rust around the filler cap then you'll need that spraying & then blended into the door so that doesn't look a diferent shade too

Why??!!??
The door isnt attached to the wing?? They will just spray the door.

A bodyshop worthy of being called a bodyshop will be able to match the colour perfectly, spray the door and there will be no discernable different in the colour on the door/wings. My mate used to work for R-M Paints, who supply TVR, Ford, Aston etc. with paint. He had a handy little tool
that you point at the paintwork and it assesses the correct "recipie" to
faithfully replicate that colour! Neat eh?!

Ok Doc u know better. I don't wanna get into a female of easy persuasiongin' match but I don't agree. It's up to you Carl but if you get just the door done there will be a noticable difference. If u want a near enough match just get the door done if not get it blown out into the wing and rear quarter mate. Think about it Doc the new paint on the door will be made by a different hand to the original paint, mixed by a different hand, appplied by a different hand and applied at a different date in a different environment so there will be a difference especially to someone who knows what they're looking at. I've seen it all before. Also it's a FRST so it's gonna be at least 8 years old and the paint will have weathered slightly.

Depends where you go mate but I'm getting a full respray including the inside of the doors, door shuts, inside of the boot, boot shut etc(basically everything apart from the engine bay) for £600. Then again I am mates with a sprayer at a Citroen bodyshop so I get mates rates!
